Can someone tell me why he never defended his belt against Nunn? That would of been a great fight imo

It wouldn't have been a great fight at all, it would have been a brutal early KO. By the time Jones was holding a title in the same division that Nunn was in, it was 1994.

And 1994 was the year that Jones dominated Toney, while Nunn lost to Steve Little and Frankie Liles. It would have been a mismatch.

Nunn's prime was 1988-1991, and Jones didn't win a world title till 1993. Nunn was not the same fighter by the time Jones was setting the world alight.

Popkins pretty concisely hit the nail on the head with the timeline.

Would have been a great fight with both at their peak no doubt.

Nunn was offered the fight, but said Roy Jones was getting to much of the purse.

He was quoted saying this article

    http://www.secondsout.com/usa-boxing-news?ccs=229&cs=19968

In a similar situation as with the "legends," a fight with Roy Jones Jr. never came to be. Jones won the Super Middleweight title in 1994 when Nunn lost his Super Middleweight title that same year.

"They offered us $125,000 and he [Roy Jones] was going to get 3 million" says Morgan with laugher in his voice. "There was no way Mike was going to take that kind of money when he was just as good or better than Jones."

May well have happened in 98, but Jones gave up his wbc belt to fight Buster Douglas, then Nunn lost to Rocchigiani for the vacant title. Jones in the meantime had changed his mind and the belt was then taken from Rocchigiani & given back to Jones.

    Same as:
Why didn't Jones VS Michalczewski happen
Why didn't Jones VS Hopkins II happened (not talking about that disgrace fight last year)
Why didn't Jones VS Calzaghe didn't happen (earlier)
    Why didn't...
    ???

why didn't jones v mcclellan happen?

was it because mcclellan kicked roys ass in the amateurs and roy knew even back then that mcclellans bombs would shatter his steroid riddled mandable? :think

Nah. It was because McClellan had to retire because of life-threatening injuries, you ****ing rat. If you knew anything about the boxers you are discussing, you would know there was an agreement for Jones and McClellan to fight after McClellan had taken Benn's belt. Obviously, it didn't happen. You are a hate-filled moron who knows nothing except how to regurgitate the same ancient General Forum chat about glass jaws and overrated frauds, etc. You're ****.

no one has yet to prove or even give decent evidence that jones ducked anyone. he made very clear he didn't want to fight abroad with DM. that's it. nunn would have been a great fight but the timing was never right.

for the same reason Roy was called 'Reluctant' Roy.

He did not want to take any risks with that fragile Glass Jaw.

How good was Nunn still? I haven't seen any of his close decision losses and am curious as to how he still looked then not too far removed from his prime. Big Nunn fan I am and hopefully I'll get his fights.

don't think nunn fit in that category though

if jackson had beat g-man and jones avoided him for sure

if g-man had beat benn and jones avoided him for sure

if benn had not lost to malinga and jones avoided him for sure

all these fighters that he was supposed to fight suffered major setbacks
