The fights I mentioned were the fights Bedard mentioned he was trying to make. He also said that HBO wasn't putting the big money behind Pascal vs Bute. In other words, most of the money that Bute makes comes from the 13,000+ that come to see him fight, not from HBO. Bute will sell well even against the rubbish Bedard + Bute are looking at for the next couple of fights. Hopkins will lose to Pascal and then retire. Then Dawson will beat Pascal. Bute will not go up to 175 to fight Dawson. He will wait for the winner of the 168 tournament, fighting Mendy, Sartison, etc. At the very best, Bute will be fighting a Froch who barely scraped past Dirrell and Taylor, lost to Kessler and was KOed by Abraham.
HBO is an automatic added incentive. Even if they don't give many millions for any fight, if they accept to show a fight, it still represents very interesting dollars and it also helps to expand the market far and wide... HBO already said they would broadcast Bute vs Pascal. HBO or not, that fight is a sure lock anyways and it won't happen in 4 years either... Now if Bute gets a chance to fight Dawson, Pascal & Froch in the next 2 years, then what's the problem with that ? Those are good defining fights around his weight class. The plan at the start of 2010 was also to make Lucian fight 3 times this year... so if the Mendys of this world fight him eventually, I say it's cause they keep Bute busy more than 2 fights in the year. By Summer 2011, the Super 6 semis will also be over. Many fights could be made. Don't be pessimistic ahead of time... :good
I think he might leave Interbox if they persist in continuing to face sotf opposition. Bute boiling inside with the comments Pascal made since his victory over Dawson.
I am not so sure it's Interbox... ...there's no reason to believe Bute isn't 100% happy with his career going this way. What Pascal said was true - he is the Champ at 175. Bute is not the Champ at 168. Pascal also said he was The Man in town. It's up to Bute to prove otherwise. Pascal has beaten a better fighter in Dawson than Bute has beaten in Andrade or anyone else. I don't think Bute was seething. He seems much too practical and cerebral for that... If Bute had wanted the Pascal fight badly, it would definitely have happened.
No one has yet tackled these questions here. Would someone please explain to me why Bute cannot fight a fight or two at 175 and then come back to 168, given that he expects to be able to make weight at 168 for at least another 2 years and given that Bute comes into the ring at 185 having dehydrated a hell of a lot in the first place?
Yay! Lets hope Bute the coward fights a live body that possess an ounce of skill one day. Buy hey Bute fans no need to worry...With HBO on their side we'll get to see Bute beat up big name has beens or never will bes. Oh the excitement.. I just wonder what megafight Interbox have in mind for the untested southpaw??
That's all bull**** in my opinion. Bute doesn't need to gain 1g to fight at 175lbs. He's already just as big as Pascal, Dawson, Cloud, Johnson, Hopkins, etc.. Bute is a light heavyweight fighting at 168lbs.
There is no explanation other then Interbox and Bute believe they need to add 7lbs to his frame if he moves up. Which is nonsense obviously. This is very frustrating for us fans.
either way all the big names at 168 will end up at 175 if the money is there. Bute has nothing to gain from staying at 168 unless he's chasing Calzaghe's record of defenses.
There is no logical explanation to validate their way of thinking besides the fact that since they already have trouble making 168lbs...they may think that once Bute's body adjusts to 175lbs, it won't respond well afterwards going down those extra 7lbs. I certainly don't approve the explanation or line of thought ! I personally give them one last pass with this Brinkley fight and after if they don't get a real threat in the ring, they'll start losing my respect, just like many other Bute fans. Let's stay just a bit more patient until early 2011 to see where his career is heading. Now that Kessler is out of the Super 6..that tournament may end earlier than anticipated at first, if they make the next fights the official semis. The one thing I truly appreciate about most Bute fans here and around in general, is that the vast majority aren't blind nuthuggers like some are for other well known fighters !! They call it as they see it !!! :thumbsup
If he's ever crazy to attempt anything remotely close to that...we should all line up to one by one "Calzaghe style" smack him across the head.:yep
With Kessler injury the Super 6 could start is semi-final sooner so maybe we can get one of the 2 looser for spring-summer 2011!
