    It's 1996......

Mike Tyson has beaten frank bruno, and George Foreman has beaten Axel Schultz the previous year......All Bull**** ring politics aside, i want to hear the opinions of the true boxing fans......How does this fight play out in this exact year for both fighters? Does mike find his way inside before gassing? Or does George weather the opening storm & box smart? Whos chin will be tested?

    :good Thanks guys

If Foreman ever had his best chance I think its around this time. Tyson never showed in his post prison comeback he could fight 12 hard rounds. Foreman on the other hand, could sustain a pretty good workrate, but just like he looked like crap against Shultz because of Shultz's mediocre speed, he could have trouble finding Tyson.
Tyson would also be in trouble with Jay Bright setting the gameplan for him. I would favor Tyson, Foreman never showed he could beat a guy even close to the level of 96 Tyson, styles aside. I think Foremans power is a bit overated as well around this time. He went the distance with Shultz, Grimsley (knocked out in 12 seconds by James Thunder), Briggs, and Savarese, fighters who were pretty easy to discourage and/or stop.

Tyson beats him in pretty one sided affair and gets blasted by the media for taking such an easy fight.

At this point Foreman was 47 years old. He was not even the same fighter who beat Micheal Moorer two years earlier much less the one who put a valiant effort against Evander Holyfield at the beginning of the decade. Tyson may not have been at his best but he was still a pretty good fighter at this time. Good enough to have dispatched of Foreman.

IDK about this one? I always felt that the 1991 version of Foreman who fought Holyfield would be able to beat any version of Tyson by KO. 70's version beats him by KO as well.

By 1996 Foreman was not the same guy who stopped Qawi (KO7, '88, a year into his comeback), Cooper (KO2, '89), Cooney (KO2, '90), and Rodrigues (KO2. '90). He damn sure wasn't the same guy who gave Holyfield trouble in 1991 (L12).

In 1996 I think Tyson would try to stop Foreman early and his speed would be a big factor in the first 4 rounds. Foreman would have some marks on his face and some swelling but he remains upright. Tyson slows the pace by round 5 and gets a little frustrated that Foreman is still coming forward. Rounds 6-9 are close but Foreman isn't landing his big punches flush. Foreman's head is starting to look like it did vs. Stewart by round 10 and Tyson is up 6 rounds to 4. Tyson actually turns boxer in this fight and surprises some people. He uses his speed and mobility to stick and move on Foreman. Tyson wins 7 rounds to 5 and is exhausted at the end of the fight.

    Great post hookie :good

i'm trying to narrow this one down to the year, i could have made it 1991 foreman vs 1999 Tyson :D But all that stuff has been done before.....unlike many classic What-if's this one at least WAS a distant possibility back then....I agree with you that big george would have made this one the distance lol and thats a top point u made that Tyson would have to turn boxer.....food for thought!

I actually have a ULTRA RARE promo shirt for a 96 fight between Foreman and Tyson, guarantee you won't see another one of these.

    So overrated.

1990's Foreman had enough trouble with B level fighters..to think he would beat any great fighter including the 1988 Mike Tyson is blasphemy. Glass Jaw slugger Morrison shut him out, Average fighter Axel Shulz turned his face into a meat grinder and nearly won the fight. Two fighters who wouldn't last 3 rounds combined with Mike Tyson.

Good fight here in 96', like the others I think this Foreman was on quite the slide vs the George that fought Holyfield or Cooney or Rodriguez..

He had slowed enough that I don't think he can KO MIke here, and Tyson has a big speed advantage over this version of Foreman.

I see Tyson attacking George early but Foreman getting his respect with his uppercuts and his telephone pole jab, Tyson may actually box Foreman which would look a little odd since his normal MO is to seek and destroy..

I would say that Tyson will win this fight on points, Foreman will have his moments but since this George couldn't chop down Schulz or Grimsley then hes not taking out Tyson.. So Tyson W DEC

Tyson lack of motivation would be a diciding factor. Foreman pushing, grabbing and now and again capturing Tyson with uppercuts - would lead to Tyson getting frustrated, disorganized and finally giving up.
I think Foreman had the mental strenghtness to suppress a mentally weak Tyson.

Hold on...... Morrison didn't fight Foreman in '91! After the Holyfield fight it was mostly downhill for George. Foreman was all over the TV and selling this and that, he was barely training. Up to the Holyfield fight he was improving every fight and fought like he had something to prove. Foreman looked good vs. Coetzer and somewhat decent vs. Savarese and Briggs but for the most part he fought unprepared after his fight with Holyfield. He looked like **** vs. Moorer but managed to pull it off... he was much better prepared for Holyfield. A lot can happen in a couple of years.

He would have stopped Morrison, Stewart, and Grimsley just a couple of years prior.

Foreman's style and huge size would be a big problem for Mike in the 1990's. Mike would have nowhere to go and would have to fight, and he would hope to stop Foreman before George starts to land his punches. I think Mike in his prime is greater than Foreman, but this fight was all wrong for him. If this fight gets out of round one than George starts to land and Mike has nowhere to go but down. The guys who did well with George did not stand in front of him. George KO 3 or 4 over Tyson

Mike isn't dumb. He'd win on points like Morrison.
