Hill is borderline great. He has a chance to make the hall of fame.

Maske to me is a very good & consistent champion, but not quite dominant enough to get serious consideration for the hall of fame.

Tizzo is just another alphabet champion who caught guys at the right time.

Maske is undeniably great. A long sinewy, lion of a man, ready to strike with fierceness and power which were only slightly reigned by his immense science and cleverness. Fit, defensively masterful, possessor and full elaborator of every punch in the fistic arsenal. I rank him with Langford only.

I just talked to Virgil Hill on Friday, he is a Class act. We are inducting him into the New Jersey Boxing Hall of Fame in November. There very few boxers in history that fought more Championship rounds then he did.

Far from great , not really good.
Too many titles , too many champions .
Maybe Maske was barely good , and even this was because he was so big for his weight class.

Hill would be my top pick out of these 3 that's for sure.

Hill was pretty boring in his prime but he was also usually dominate... at least during his first reign.

At LHW he beat Marvin Camel KO1, Leslie Stewart KO4 (Stewart gave Moorer his toughest fight at LHW two years later, LKOby8, Bobby Czyz W12, and James Kinchen KO1 before losing to Thomas Hearns L12.

He regained a title at LHW and went on to beat Frank Tate x2, Adolpho Washington WTD11, Fabrice Tiozzo W12, Saul Montana KO10, Drake Thadzi W12, Lou Del Valle W12, and Henry Maske W12 before losing to Dariusz Michalczeski L12.

I actually feel that a move to CW after the Maske fight would have helped his career. He had struggled to make 175 for a while and it hurt him. He struggled to beat Del Valle and Maske (no shame in that though). It seemed like he had nothing left vs. Michalczewski. He was definatley spent as a LHW when he faced Roy Jones Jr. about a year later.

He looked strong at CW in late 1998...he should have made the move two years earlier. He even gave a prime Jean Marc Mormeck (I had Mormeck up by a point) a very tough fight in their rematch despite being 40.

Hill's opposition really was poor by lightheavy standards.it says it all that the likes of a washed up Frank Tate, aging Kinchen and the immortal Bobby Czyz were among his best wins.

He and Maske were good solid fighters at their best, no more imo.Certainly not great nor near-great.Maske always reminded me a lot of a slower, less talented Chris Finnegan.

Maske's legendary comeback win over Hill should automatically place him over Virgil in the eyes of any reasonable fan.

I think Hill is great. 20 some defenses. Undefeated with 10 defenses the first time. Tiozzo no way is great, and Maske borderline HOF. Hill is the only great.. He is not a strong ATG, but he is ATG with his numbers.

What hurts Hill is how people portray him as boring. And a guy like Roberto Duran who was great gets credit because of his machismo attitude. Hill was the opposite, his supposedly boring fights made him look worse, but he was a great.

Why would Maske's win over Hill put him over Hill? Maske beat Hill when they were both a million years old! Hill beat Maske when both were still considered good fighters... both entered as Champ.

Hill was still a cw belt holder. Maske came back after 10 years to beat him with no tune up. That´s quite a feat.

Indeed, but it doesn't mean that Maske was better than Hill, prime vs. prime. In fact, a past prime Hill beat a prime Maske... in Germany! Yes, they are close in age (Maske is actually 12 days older) but Hill peaked much earlier than Maske.
