Paulie was floored off Cotto and rocked badly off Hatton numerous times. Those guys have legit elite power at 140, Khan does not.

Khan got the stoppage but come on Paulie was fine.

Malinaggi may have no power, but his single punch handspeed is very impressive IMO.

People who think Khans hand speed is overated are stupid. If 5 punches a second is slow then what do you people rate as fast! He has very good speed, with pretty good power. You need to look at his ealrier fights when he is in trouble and started brawlig to appriciate how fast his hands are. And IMO they have got faster and more powerful today (when he sits down on punches)

Just watch the salita fight when he has him in the corner and salita is cowering. (I went to the fight BTW) it was like his hands were not moving they were so quick.

People that are trash talking his handspeed are probably jumping on the "Amir is a glass chinned waiting to get exposed" bandwagon.

    You cant deny his handspeed.

    :patsch

    On topic:

Khan is very quick indeed. I don't think he's faster than Pac, but he's not far off. I'd also go as far as to say that he has one of the best jabs, P4P, in the sport at the moment. (Although not many fighters have ace jabs at the moment, to be fair.) I don't think Khan has overrated speed, because most people place him around the same level as Pac and Floyd, which is correct, in my opinion. I quite like seeing a fighter who combines speed with combination punching -- pot-shotting can look very polished and skilful, but the ability to throw good, quick combos can be a potent weapon. Combination punching can potentially neutralise someone who attempts to counter you with single shots, like Floyd, and it becomes especially helpful when people are against the ropes and you can outwork them to win the round. It can also serve you well as a type of suppression boxing, where you just keep moving and firing chained shots, which throws a lot of people off their rhythm and frustrates them. (See Kotelnik's match with Khan, for example.)

The downside, of course, is that it sucks up your stamina at a very fast rate, so you need to have superb conditioning. It also leaves you open for counter specialists, who can hit you in the middle of your combo and continually check your advances. (Marquez vs Pac, for example.) Khan mostly gets away with it due to that handspeed and timing.

Khan definitely hurt paulie when he hit him with that bodyshot in the middle rounds. If he hadn't held on for dear life it would have been ruled a down, IMO.

I think Khan's handpseed is indeed his best asset. Is it overrated? No, I do not necessarily think so. He is not, however, an explosive puncher as someone else already pointed out. Khan's stoppage of Paulie resulted from the cumulative effect of landing with regularity over a number of rounds. Moreover, it's not as if Paulie couldn't have ended the fight on his feet if the fight hadn't been halted.

In sum, his handspeed is excellent but his punching power is about average, perhaps a little better but no more.

The kid has good power! Look what he did to Salita when he sat down on his shots. He was hurting him. Wasn't easy to land big shots on Paulie so he had to chip away with the jab but against a guy who doesn't have the speed of foot as Paulie will give Khan oppenings to sit down on his shots more. With Roach he has the ability to adapt to an opponant and use different strategies. So you won't always see Khan fighting the same fight, he will mix it up.

His speed is phenomenal!! not overrated at all. This praise is totally justified.
