-Holyfield, Tubbs, Mathis JR, Donald, Hide before his usual banana peel act, and Golota. When presented with a boxer, Bowe lumbers in pursuit, jabbing, and bombing wildly. Vitali loves to fight off his back foot and welcomes this kind of pressure. He can read it and pop shot all night. Its sharp right crosses over that lazy left that get Vitali..even Donald caught him with some good ones. Holyfiled and Ruiz would find a home for their right hand before Bowe as well. Maybe even Chambers if he can come back in any kind of shape.
Holyfield 2 was not one sided, and Holyfield was superior to Vitali. Tubbs was some 8 or 9 fights from Bowe fighting for the title. Mathis, Donald, Hide, you must be joking sir? The Mathis fight went 3 or 4 rounds, and a 5'10 weak punching tub of goo who is about as slippery as a bowl of jello is really hard to use as a barometer to a 6'7 statue. I'd say the fight would resemble more of the Donald and Hide fights, with Vitali in retreat and Bowe doing damage as he moved away, both of which for the most part were one sided blowouts by Bowe.
And how am I to take you seriously when you say "Briggs would have a very good chance against Vitali if he trains..." and then you regale us with a tale how you told him one liners about Vitali until he doubled over with laughter? I have read your Bowe-glorifying posts in the past and unless you can use the same loving eye to appraise Vitali Klitschko why even bother giving your take on this hypothetical fight? Isn't it a little hypocritical questioning other people's "credibility" and accusing them of "pure biased ignorance"? Aren't Briggs and Bowe from the same Brooklyn neighborhood? ... ESB classic needs more unbiased analysis and less cheerleading.
-No, it was not one sided because Evander is not as consistent a boxer as Tubbs or Vitali....he just can't help but drop his jab when the mood catches him no matter how well he's been boxing. -A case could be made for Bowe being green against Tubbs if he actually matured as a fighter..rather than regress after immediately winning the title the following year. -Hide did well boxing in the early rounds before his usual..."OH MY GOD, HE'S THROWING PUNCHES AT ME, WHAT DO I DO? WHERE DO I GO?.." -Mathis Jr. Out-boxed and struggling against the better than expected Mathis on August 13th, '94, Bowe, once again over his best fighting weight, was losing the early rounds. The former champ, at a slovenly 247-pounds, was also showing the grace and fluid movement of an elephant. Embarrassingly slow, his punches off target, and appearing quite easy to hit, Bowe was clearly not the same fighter who had handed Holyfield his first loss a couple of years before. Frustrated no doubt by his lacklustre showing, Bowe spun things around in the 4th-round - illegally. -Donald? But try as he might (and he might have tried harder), This content is protected could not cut off the galloping This content is protected , and the fight instantly developed into a protracted chase scene. Round and round they went. It was so bad, tickets shouldn't have been sold to anybody with an inner-ear disorder. If all you saw of it was the clockwise action from This content is protected in This content is protected , a fight This content is protected eventually won by unanimous decision thanks to a battering but intermittent left jab, you would be correct to complain. This content is protected , who had no business being in the ring with This content is protected at this stage of his embryonic career (though he was 16-0, he had been a pro less than two years), probably fought the only fight he could, considering that he apparently does not possess the power to harm This content is protected . Still, it would have been more exciting to see him use his hands a little more than his feet.
No I said this: Dont twist it. Vitali brokedown from a Lewis offensive rather quickly. Briggs can, and has shown in the past against Lewis, and others, that he can be an offensive force in the opening rounds, which clearly troubled Vitali. Briggs also repreents probably the biggest puncher he's faced outside of Lewis. Vitali is no spring chicken himself at this point, Briggs has a chance, albeit a punchers chance. Sorry if you dont like my comments regarding Klitschko, Briggs happens to live near me and Ive visited him in his gym. You obviously think much higher of Vitali, but your wrong, prime Bowe mops the floor with him. :good
I dont know what your trying to point out by posting his wiki page. Bowe beat Donald easily and won every round. Are you saying that he should have stopped Donald instead of winning every round? Donald was pretty difficult to stop most of his career, and was only stopped once by Vitali late in the fight and much later in his career. Its tough to say that Vitali beat Donald better than Bowe did as well. Not much can be made of Bowes performance against Mathis sorry, but he was in **** poor shape. I think most fighters found Mathis hard to hit, he was pretty slippery. I think Tyson dropped the first few rounds to him as well. No shame in that, nor was there in breaking Hide down, but I dont know how you could say Hide did well, he didnt, and was knocked down 8 times. As far as Holyfield I think it took a bit of both to mix it up and beat Bowe. You had to fight him and box him, or else he steamrolled opponents. Tubbs was technically better than Vitali in my opinion, regardless of his accomplishments and would have given any young charge a tough time.
I am a big fan of the Klits actually, they are personable intelligent gentleman ,allways in shape and dedicated to their sport ,and the top 2 heavies around. Unfortunately that is not saying much ,because there is not much around. Don't kid yourself that because I pick Bowe to beat Vitali ,[ and I havent said how],that you know me, or my motives. When Vitali made his come back I picked him to beat Peter ,and if you doubt me go back through my posts. You don't know me, and I don't want to know you .
Yes Briggs is very dangerous in those first couple of rounds. Lewis was lucky that punch came so late in the 1st round or he would have been stopped IMO.
I reckon Briggs would beat Bowe if he came out blazing - Bowe never fought anyone with the power of Briggs and for good reason!
Yeah I never really adressed my opinion of Vitali, but I think hes a good fighter. I think hes mentally tougher and more versatile to fit into a real heavyweight division than his brother is, but I still think he still lacks enough of it, along with skillset, to be as dominate as he is now, in say the 80's or early to mid 90's. I dont hate any fighter, I just feel strongly about certain ones. Bowe was a mess, but he, like Eddie Futch once said, showed the promise to develop into the best fighter he had ever seen. What bothers me is the ignorance of people who dont realistically evaluate the current crop of heavyweights and use it as a barometer of how Vitali would do in other, better, more competitive eras. Thats all.
I dont favor Briggs, but I do think his best chances are to pressure hard early, just as he fought Lennox Lewis. After 4 rounds I think he gets stopped, and I think he has zero chance of winning a boxing match. Hope that clarifies things. As far as Bowe he lost one fight in his entire career, in no way did he resemble Arreolas fighting style, he was far more strategic and technically sound. I also believe Briggs has a straighter and better righthand than Arreola, and thats why I like his chances in the early rounds if he throws it.
-I suppose he would have to, and I would like to hope Briggs would do that and not just sit in the pocket all night like he did against Sergei and Sultan. -We probably been over this a thousand times but I don't think Bowe was technically very sound when he was forced to play stalker. He could get by but it wasn't something he never looked very comfortable at. Vitali looks almost as equally oafish..but I doubt he'd be playing aggressor in this match up. Wlad is actually the only big man I've seen that looks really sharp walking boxers down.
