Even in this short clip it's easy to see why Young would have problems with Frazier. He doesn't have anything to keep Joe off of him for 15 rounds, though skill and guile may see him last the distance.

Not sure when this was to be honest - they both look pretty trim to me - Frazier looks to be not far off the kind of shape he looked for Ali I/Foster and Young (to me) does look a lot slimmer than when he faced Ali/Foreman ? How old was Young for Foreman? :)lol:how old was young?) ? I was wondering whether this was a very young Young :)lol:) maybe giving Joe sparring in the lead up to the Ali I fight?

It might have been. I think it was Bummy Davis who mentioned recently that Young was s sparring partner for Frazier in the early 70's.

Yes. Jimmy Young, Ken Norton, and Larry Holmes were all sparring partners for Joe Frazier in the early-mid 1970's.

Yes, they were good friends and did not want to fight eachother.

Joe and Jimmy only lived ten min. from each other. Jimmy trained at Joe's for many yrs. He sparred with Joe fairly reguarly. He also sparred with Marvis alot when he was an amature.

That and the fact that Norton would have been decapitated...

I love how Frazier grunts with those punches.

Norton and Frazier were both trained by Eddie Futch so they sparred together few times, but Norton as far as I remember was not a regular sparring partner of Fraziers, or employed as one.

It would have been a very bad fight for Norton...and as much as I hate to admit it, for my man Jimmy Young as well...though I think that at his best, Jimmy may have been able to survive with all his tricks being drawn on.
