I'm downloading the torrent now. My dad was a Puerto Rican boxer out of Santurce, PR. He fought in the Pan-Am games waaaaaaay back in the day...won bronze. The kid to beat him was Cuban. He said that that kid was one of the strongest fighters he ever faced, but he was super skinny. He said the whole Cuban olympic squad back in his day were like from another world. I would love to go to Cuba and see them train.
That some spartan training. The little kid getting absolutely hammered with no headgear sparring is a perfect example which sums up this training.
First of all, " AWESOME DOCUMENTARY ". I am Cuban and I was amazed at how this kids train, get hit and have so much technique even at that age !!! It's amazing to see their will and determination, even though that there is hardly any nutritious food in Cuba for them to train properly. That's why Cuba produces so many great boxers, and pretty soon they will prove it in the pros too !!! :bbb 99% of Cuban boxers are Black because, #1- Almost 80% of Cuba is Black and Mulato, #2- Blacks seem to excel more than whites in Boxing, #3- they basically pick them Black in Cuba over whites as they feel that Blacks are more athletic than whites ( taken from a Cuban sports study ) and #4- whites in Cuba prefer other sports like Baseball, Tennis, Table Tennis, swimming etc... And it's not because they are from Oriente, it's because the whole Island of Cuba is full of Blacks...:good
Yeah, super skinny but full of power. They don't have the ideal nutrition in Cuba, that's why they are thin but at the same time they make up for it with inner strenght and natural power developed in the gym. The Cuban team is always real strong, and like I have said a million times one day they will really show the professional boxing World what they have. Imagine all those kids going pro ??? :huh And sadly, 90% of them never will turn pro. That's why Cuba dominates amateur boxing and has been out of the pros since 1959, but they are catching up now little by little with all the current Cuban defectors ... All that is about to change very soon. :good
Dude when the hell is Castro and his fam going to die? lol I hope that when and if that day comes the training will not slow down or end up f'd up. I could see that happening too.
i can see this happening too, being that these boxing schools are treated like prison camps not giving the students much freedom. But it might already be engrained in the Cuban culture and the tradition could continue on.
