Each at their best. I think this would be a fascinating matchup. Going by thhe Ali and Dempsey fights this is going to be very interesting.

Tunney isnt knocking out Patterson I'm afraid.....

Tunney was a wonderful boxer, and i feel he would have to box beautifully well to defeat Patterson.....

i think this is far too close to call

Tunney knocks him out in my opinion. Fast enough to give Floyd lots of issues, and can really punch impressively to the head and body if need be.. Floyd could overwhelm him early though.

You know, I think Patterson get´s only KOed by the absolute top punchers of the division. I don´t rank Tunney there. He can hurt Patterson but I doubt he can knock him out.

After visiting the canvas once or twice,Floyd beats Gene over the distance. Floyd's speed is the key here.

I rate Tunney above Floyd at heavy, but I am undecided about this one. I think I will keep my powder dry and read a few posters comments.:huh

    Really? Based on what?

This one is very hard, Floyd´s speed is a big factor here I think. I just don´t know if it´s enough.

Floyd fights out of his crouch...and Tunney will dance around him like Ali did.

Tunney by decision in 15 rds.

Basically on two victories over an admittedly past it Dempsey, whom I think would still have beaten Floyd at that stage.
And what film I have seen of Tunney ,plus the fact he was never kod.
I like Floyd, and think his post title resume redeems him some what for fighting the likes of Harris , Rademacher, and London.
    I pick Tunney by dec.

When Tunney jabbed, it wasn't unusual to see him pump out four or five at a time. It took him five tries, but he finally mastered the super fast Greb. Carpentier was noted for blinding speed as well, and Gene dominated him over 15. Tunney's reach was 77 inches to Patterson's 71 inches, a significant advantage when taking into account Gene's style.

Floyd dominated Machen and Daniels over the distance, but not Maxim, Hurricane Jackson in their first meeting, Chuvalo, Quarry 2X, Ellis or Bonavena. Aside from Greb, it was nearly unheard of for somebody to be competitive over the distance with Tunney, who was still improving when he retired. This one has a strong chance to go the distance. If there is a stoppage, Gene produces it. As we've seen, Tommy Gibbons was formidable in knocking out Norfolk, but Tunney put him down and out six months later. Any knockdown is more likely to be scored by Tunney, who clearly had the power to drop Floyd.

Can Patterson land more punches than Gene over the distance? Tunney's jab would be going constantly, and may force Floyd to concentrate on defense. The Machen and Chuvalo fights are probably the best ones to assess Patterson's chances with Tunney by.

Tunney had a chin or iron, and remarkable stamina. I think he hits a bit harder than he is given credit for. I pick him in a close fight. Late TKO or close decision for Tunney, I think.
