does holmes left jab help holmes to a win or does lyle win big?when holmes fought tyson it was quite apparent he was scared to death would he react this way to lyle? also could lyle whip a prime tyson?
Holmes would beat Lyle convincingly. Either by runaway decision,or a late round tko. He may take a knockdown from one of Lyle's right hands along the way though. Tyson would stop Ron in about four or five rounds, with Lyle giving a brave and solid account of himself before going down.
I think Lyle is game in the early rounds but Holmes takes him out more convincingly that Ali did about round eight.
True. But if Ali had been more focused,he'd have got serious with Ron quite a few rounds earlier than he did.
Lyle would be in some trouble here a Prime Holmes is a tougher draw then the version of Ali that Lyle lost 2, I see Holmes controlling the fight early and building an early lead, if Lyle gets there just right he could drop Larry but Larry would rise to give Lyle a beating... I don't see Holmes having to much trouble and I would pick Holmes by tko9!!
Holmes takes anywhere from 11 to 13 rounds in a 15 rounder with Lyle.Ron could conceivably hurt Larry, but not enough to take Larry out.
I also have Larry stopping Lyle, but in the middle to late rounds. Lyle was strong and powerful, and his decent boxing ability would give Holmes more trouble than someone like Shavers managed to. I think Larry would establish control with the jab in the first 2-4 rounds, then back-pedal or a tire a bit. Lyle had excellent timing, and I think he would drop Holmes. Holmes would get up, and would weather a storm far worse than the one he received from Shavers after being dropped, since Lyle was a much better finisher and far more accurate. Unlike Shavers II, Holmes wouldn't be able to take control the round right after he was dropped since Lyle would follow up too well. After the knockdown, it would turn into a firefight, and Larry would keep firing back, but keep getting outgunned by Lyle over the next few rounds. Larry might even go down again. Lyle would tire though and Larry would gradually swing back into old form and would force a stoppage, with or without a knockdown. Larry by TKO between 7 and 13.
Holmes wins in a fairly one-sided manner. They were supposed to fight in the spring of 1978, but Lyle got arrested for killing a guy again. He was replaced by Shavers.
Lyle was about to fight him again after he defeated LeDoux, but then he ran into Lynn Ball, and was never in line for a shot again.
