I'm going on record--I think Briggs has a good shot against Vitali

Stop qualifying everything with expect a vintage performance...expect vitali wins and then at the end say u think briggs will win.

Express a little conviction if you feel briggs is going to win.atsch

 

I tend to think he doesnt have much much of a chance but im hoping im wrong and the fight is reasonably close, big klit may well be there for someone but i dont think that someone is briggs. Just want to see a good close heavy fight

I guess what you mean to say is that you give Briggs a better chance than most here do.

I don't really rate the comeback version of Vitali anyway, so despite being an upset it won't be an amazing and creditable achievement if Briggs happens to be the guy in the ring when Vitali's age and injuries catch up with him.

Everyone talks about the "ruling brothers", but to me it's Wladimir alone at the top, with Vitali right down below with all the contenders.

He'll look good against plodders and non-engagers (Briggs is both) but the current Vitali's really not this supremely intimidating force. He uses some lateral movement and throws hard arm punches. That's good enough against the likes he's fought in his return, but I'd pick Wladimir over him in the Best Fight That Will Never Happen of the modern era 10 times out of 10. He's just better technically with his offense despite being more economical, much better defensively, and has greater one-punch power.

Briggs would have ZERO chance against Wladimir (despite the misconception that anyone who can hit has a chance). Briggs-Vitali? Eh. Whoever wins, still isn't an important heavyweight.

 

He'll take a good shot, and that's about it.

Look at the list, man. There's better fighters and less out of shape fighters the Klitschko's have dismantled, this'll be yet another RTD.

 

What about Briggs' age? He isn't the same young guy that was in with Lewis.

Is he even capable of getting Vitali in position to throw his combinations?

When and if he does get close enough to Vitali, will he still have the stamina to let his hands fly?

Keep in mind, Sultan and Liakovich had no problem outboxing this man for almost the entire duration of the fight.

I can't recall Briggs doing much of anything except lumbering around, throwing one shot at a time.

 

Well put. Wladimir's chin would also not become an issue even with Briggs being physically large and carrying some power, with how difficult to hit cleanly he has become under Emanuel Steward. If he comes through unscathed in the Peter rematch (which I expect he will) it will only solidify this opinion. Briggs has a much better shot at the fading elder brother. :nod

Mark that down as another sure win for Vitali.

 

Its not hard to land punches on a man who panics when you get him into a corner, and literally turns his back and books out of there. I'm talking about Vitali, and referencing most of his fights where he's been pressured. Arreola, Lewis, Sanders.

Briggs has lived off of being a low output, yet accurate puncher. You don't get guys out of there having shitty power and no accuracy, that's a match made in hell. But Brigg's can place his shots, he basically uses what he has and has gone as far as he'll go with his assets.

We've actually seen in end more then one fight with the first punch of the fight. World beaters? Negative, to say the least. But he is accurate.

Who knows. He does have a long wingspan, and will without doubt be looking for that chin. Leaning back from punches and turning your back against a man with bad intentions who's going to be moving forward looking to land bombs...*Shrugs*

Vitali's favored, but that's my devils advocate position.
