just before the Bryant Brannon fight... pretty interesting Lampley asks Jones if he can specify names that have recently turned down offer to fight him and Roy responds... "Nigel Benn, Steve Collins, Nardiello, Frankie Liles, Bernard Hopkins is the only one thats thinking about taking it now and that may or may not happen." Lampley- "Every one of those fighters has been offered 7 figures or considerably more to fight you, is that correct?" Roy Jones- "That's very correct" I don't know why he made an offer to nardiello......but if anyone wants me to upload to youtube i'll do it. :good
dude!!! i love that interview and that's been a huge resource for me when talking about "fights that never happened".
yep people were talking **** about Jones and saying he's ducking people.....BUT IT WAS THE OTHER ****EN WAY AROUND! That's why Roy moved up to Light Heavyweight after that fight to take on tougher competition. Roy didn't duck, they ducked him. Roy was just that scary and amazing in the ring.
thank you:thumbsup obviously you're a roy fan. ****, we've argued the same fight in the same thread many times before. but this is ridculous proof that NOT ONE FIGHTER has ever denied. the only fighter...ever, that can claim he didn't fight them is DM. and **** that ****. leave your home tiger if you wanna fight the best
So Roy Jones is his enablers/owners HBO say these guys turned down fights with him and its suddenly gospel? Talk about a bunch of ****ing fan boys.
do you think nigel benn would have taken that **** if it wasn't true? toney? hopkins? eubanks? bull****. they kept their mouths shut cause it was true
atsch all you do is talk **** about Roy, I haven't seen you make one good comment about him ever....then all you do is suck on hopkins dick every time you get a chance. *Also it wasn't just HBO in the conference....the editor-in-chief of RING magazine was asking Jones questions and some other journalists and took a couple questions from the crowd.
though those questions were screened (obviously) ahead of time but nigel collins was no ones *****. no one has ever named one instance roy ducked anyone save DM. if so, step up and show it i can probably name times where other fighters (robinson v burley, , leonard v pryor...) avoided fighters. roy did not scare away from any viable opponent.
Roy moved up and fought the champions at those weight class and made them look ordinary. Even though he got hurt and knockdown vs lou delvalle he still dominated the fight. He should have retired after beating tarver. Bhop-Tate-Toney-pazienza-lucas-mccallum-griffin-hill-del valle-johnson-harding-ruiz-tarver etc the fight i wanted to see was against dariusz michachelzki(however u spell that name) but other than that he dominated most of his opponent in his prime. Aside from the griffin 1 fight.
I highly doubt Steve Collins turned down a 7 figure offer to face Roy Jones in 96. He was dying for that fight, and a big pay day. I'm calling shenanigans!!
SHENANGIANS is my favourite word EVA!!!!!!!! the next one of you to say shenanigans gets pistol whipped! seriously though, i believe the offers were made. collins had the opportunity to publicly call roy out or refute. he didn't. ****, he retired rather than face calzaghe...CAL ****ing ZAGHE. nuff said
i'd say it's 100% true. You gotta think of it like this, Roy was a monster in the ring at 168. I believe they definitely offered Collins a 7 figure payday, Collins turned down and probably wanted more because of how risky a fight with Jones is.
