Do you consider The Ring Maganize title belt

As long as Golden Boy Promotions has a share in the magazine. I have to take the Ring belt with a grain of salt. Just like the WBC, WBA, IBF and WBO championships.
This is not an Issue with GBP. I have an issue with any promotion owing a share of "The Ring". If it is going to be the authority of boxing. it needs to be completely independent.

 

Even before the acquisition, I never bought the whole hallowed "Bible of boxing" thing. It's a respected publication. I respect it. I don't worship the paper it's printed on.

 

Because ranking the top 10 fighters in a division isn't rocket science. It's not like the Ring ranks the top 25 or 50 in a division, that takes more research and homework. Most die hard fans can look at a list and tell you if it's sounds about right. I think most can admit that the Ring's rankings have been about right all along.

As for the rankings of some of these sanctioning bodies? Please, some of them are an utter joke. And let's not even talk about these extra belts that they create just for the sheer greed of wanting to suck more money from fighters.

The sanctioning bodies are out for themselves. There is a conflict of interest. If you can look past the fact that De La Hoya owns the Ring but still give them the benefit of the doubt that they are trying to rank the fighters based purely on merit, they are by far the most credible belt to own. The term "world champion" is an utter joke because of these sanctioning bodies.

 

A belt is a belt. But I stopped considering belts real belts after they were created after 1990. I saw the WBA WBC IBF and WBO as the only real belts. They should have had unifications and could have done it with 3 fights back then ,but then the IBO and IBA and WBU all came out and there are probably more. How can they be respected. in 2010 most of the top 10 in a division can be champs.

 

Who did Margarito beat to be ranked number one for the WBC light middleweight title?? Case closed.... sometimes money can get you places my friend

He is above being "ranked". He's SNV. :roll:...But I think about seventh. Only because of his shoulder though.

LOL, Erik Morales ranked #2 by the WBC at 140. Would this EVER happen with the Ring? NEVER. I repeat, NEVER.

 

They aren't great, they're complicated (with the whole "emeritus", "interim", "super", "regular", "Silver" etc. dynamic) and they're sometimes even downright shady - but they're the skeletal remnants of old-school boxing. They're steeped in tradition, dang it! Even if that tradition is marred by the likes of the mafia and Don King, it's still our tradition. You go to Philadelphia and order a steak and cheese sandwich, and you don't complain about the greasy bag. You sign on to be a boxing fan, and you don't sweat the chump contenders who've satisfied the mysterious requirements to get ranked. :yep It's all part of it.

When something truly better comes along, I'll be as thankful as the next guy. The Ring belt is just, IMO, a false messiah.

It might be a false messiah, but it still better than anything we got now...

 

Because, it simply saying that Ring Mag thinks these guys are champion. Without going after Sanctioning fees. The other belt have become money hurgry to the point of creating mini champions so that they can collect more fees. For awhile there it seemed Salimon( spelling could be wrong) was selling the WBC ratings to the highest bidder.
