i see alex' rant to the papers about being the best in scotland is upsetting lots of people including promoter alex morrison. i saw this on another site. "Amazing" Alex Arthur, Edinburgh's former WBO super-featherweight world title holder has shown amazing accuracy for shooting himself in the foot verbally when he recently claimed to be the best boxer in Scotland, at this present time. Why AAA allowed himself to alienate the local crowd when he boxes on the undercard of Ricky Burns' WBO super-featherweight challenge to Roman Martinez on 4 September, with this subjective and personal opinion, allegedly made by him, is beyond the comprehension of this writer. Arthur's assertion has been roundly criticised by none other than Alex Morrison, the well known Glasgow promoter and former boxer of note himself. "Big" Alex is quoted as retorting; "Alex (Arthur) talks rubbish and forgets he got his (WBO) title posted to him and lost it at the first time of asking (against Dagenham's Nicky Cook." "Ricky (Burns) will at least challenge for the title in the ring. When he and Alex fought, Ricky still had his amateur trainers in his corner." Having been present at the bout between Arthur and Burns in the Meadowbank arena back in 2006, you'd have to acknowledge that Arthur won it on points, but it was by no means a one-sided affair with Burns only running out of steam towards the end of the first 12 rounder he'd fought. i agree with alot of what alex morrison has said. alex needs another reality check cause he looked very average in his last few fights. what does everybody else think about alex arthur? is he the best in scotland? who would you rate above him now?
Seen it on boxrec mate .I think he's been a we bit harsh because the main thing is Arthur probably beleives it and in himself .Getting his title posted to him is harsh .He's a former world champion he deserves respect and for his win against Burns .They should try and spur each other on tho Burns and Arthur not try and get a better over each other they're in different divisions .
He's fighting McDonough in his next fight the Irishman Gavin beat.Arthur hopefully destroys him man .He's lost 18 but only been stopped onced .Hopefully Arthur takes him out early with an impressive stoppage like his last fight at lightweight .After this man he needs to get stepping up tho I agree or else 1 more tune up before a title shot .Murray or somebody man Mitchell .

The fight will take place at lightweight over eight rounds at Glasgow's Kelvin Hall on Saturday, 4 September. McDonagh stopped Michael Gomez, who handed Arthur his first professional loss in 2003, inside five rounds and Arthur said: "McDonagh is no easy touch - he succeeded in doing what I couldn't when I lost my British title to Michael Gomez - but I didn't want an easy fight for my comeback. "I'm still confident that I can beat McDonagh as I am a lot older and wiser than when I lost to Gomez. "I have continued to have cracking, no-holds-barred sparring sessions with Glasgow's Willie Limond in preparation for his fight in Mexico City against Erik Morales so I'm razor sharp and raring to go." alex arthers got the right to say what he thinks, maybe he is better than burns, and whats to say, if burns suceeds, there couldent be a concerted effort by aa to make the weight for an all scottish affair, makes great bussiness sense at least, good luck to him and burns as well on 4th.
I think the thing that pissed people off was AAA claimed he was the only genuine world title operator in scotland saying that after he got beat comprehensivly by the english champion simply doesn't make sense in alot of peoples heads.oh well lol
Arthur is well past his prime and for him to talk about still competing at world level is pretty delusional imho but I think most people will just see it as a fighter bigging himself up and he'll get a good reception from the crowd.
Because lots of fighters believe lots of things to help them compete. And who cares what this guy thinks anyway?
Paddy Pollok Vs Thain ? If am not correct it was Polloks trainer i sat with at the SRL dinner, Dave Douglas ??? Beat Gary Jacobs once and says he beat him in the rematch, anyways....top bloke.......then he called out Jacobs again over the mic This bill just gets better !!!!
it not getting better with pollock v thain. pollock is very limited and i remember seeing john thain in the amatuers and he wasn't all that. thain will win this fight easily on points if he doesn't stop pollock that is.
Pollok i thought was around the 10 fight mark and Thain is only 1 or maybe 2 now, i dont boxrec and am pretty sure ma numbers are wrong anyways. This is what interested me, a cpl of scots down the food chain getting it on. I aint seen either fight Pro or Am, i ate food with Pollok, i saw Thain spar. Might give some reasoning as to why i says its getting better. Thain got a nice decision in his Pro debut am told, personally, no idea. Anyways, appreciate the response, i learnt a lil more :good
To be fair to Alex arthur, he HAS forgot more about boxing than most scottish fighters from the past two decades knew. Love him or loathe him, on his day Arthur had talent to burn. Tough, stubborn & one helluva body puncher, Alex Arthur could fight. Everyone goes on about the Gomez fight like it was the only fight Arthur ever fought in his career, but lets face it folks, Arthur is looked upon as an underachiever, despite winning british, commonwealthe European & world titles. Tells its own story really, if Arthur had lived up to his potential how good could he have been? So what if hes a bit bitter now that the dust looks to be settling on his career, hopefully Arthur now has sorted out all his problems & can come back & finally realise his awesome potential he showed as an up & comer. Its a long shot, but funnier things have happened. As for Alex Morrison, who really listens to that old wannabe gangster anyway? All he does is growl in the scottish papers, like some old dog with an elastic band tied around its bawsack.
In many peoples eyes they they will see alex has never winning the world title in the ring and losing it against Nicky Cook, Alex was a great fighter in the early stages of his career and done great to win British,commonwealth and euro titles, he obviously just feel short of world class unlike Scott Harrison who won the title and defended 9 or 10 times.Good luck to him although based on his newcastle performance a long way back for AAA imo.
