Great video, thanks for posting it. I saw that match on tv in America, I think it was shown live. I remember being amazed at how skinny Hearns was. Great match, two future champs at their amateur best.
you think that he was about to gas? by Hearn's reaction at the final bell it seemed like he was extrememly glad the fight was over.
Damn, you saw it live? That's awesome.... and yeah, Tommy and Mark Breland were freaks to be that tall at that weight.
i know, those 2 were highly skilled amateurs. and not having headgear helps in identifying fighters a bit more.
It was pretty free flowing aswell, the refs jump in at the slightest thing now. Do u think its harder for amateur fighters to make the transition to pro nowadays?
it's a good question. stylewise no. amateurs nowadays (at least in NYC) is all about landing punches no matter the quality. and the point system is off. say if blue is fighting red, and blue lands 5 jabs and red lands one punch that knocks down blue,,, then blue wins the round 5 - 1. Ridiculous! one knockdown is worth one point as is one regular punch landed. so the training is affected so that they are taught to be mindless robots in there instead using their brains to set up quality punches. but it's good to get used to fighting in front of a crowd as im sure it allways was.
