I'am a big fan of both but when i heard that Pac fancies Margo even before the Mosley fight i thought that this could be a massive error of judgement. Just watching him walk & then chop down Cotto was incredible, we all know how he fights & he's very effective at dishing out the hurt as well as taking it (Pre-Mosley) We'll soon find out in the 1st 3 rounds what Margo has left as i expect Pac to unload on him but one things for certain & that is that Pac likes to take short breathers during a round & Margo will punish him & very likely hurt pac on the ropes if Pac chooses to stay on them from time to time as he did Cotto/Clottey. No way is he going to be able to force Margo onto the backfoot & keep him there. I've voted for pac UD but i still think that this fight is going to be extreamely damaging for pac & it would'nt suprise me in the least if Margo TKO/KO's pac at anytime if Pac allows himself to get trapped or "Mano un Mano's" it. Cotto moved & danced & dominated the 1st half of the fight with Margo but it did him no good once the Tornado was able to cut down the distance & slowed Cotto down with those killer body shots. I've just got this gut feeling that if Margo has anything left after all the battle's he's been though then i'll not be suprised if he chops the Pacman in half from 9 onwards.
Good points, Duranimal. This fight is by no means a foregone conclusion which makes these next couple of months seem like an eternity to wait. Since the Paul Williams fight, Tony has made it a point to stop effing around in the first few rounds and come out banging; shout out to the sacrificial lamb aka Golden Johnson, lol. A determined Tony who still has that chin and things falling into place for him can make Pacquiao go nite-nite, but I want him to stop with those wide uppercuts and go for overhand equilibrium rights. Out of the pocket uppercuts will expose his body to this lion, imo. There'll be no "tasting of his power" like Pacquiao did in the Cotto fight that's forsure, i look for Pacquiao to fight a relatively cautious fight by his standards, but then again he does have that 'brawler' in him so how long can he stay on that bicycle? and how much does Margo have left? intriguing fight imo.
Pac admitted after the fight that Cotto hurt him quite badly. He needed to go to the ropes and wait for a moment. He was really struggling at points in those first four rounds - Roach said later that he was worried at how the fight was going. But he's a great and he waited till Cotto got over-eager and dipped his knees - then BANG! But, if Cotto hadn't had such a useless corner and had come in with more strategy, I think he could have made that fight a lot more competitive. Anyway, the reason I point that out is that I don't think Pac planned on tasting Cotto's power. I don't think either Pac or Roach had counted on how effective Cotto is as a boxer, even at this stage in his career. He timed Manny effectively, had him backing up but, unfortunately, as had been the case during the Margarito fight, he just didn't have a plan for what to do late in the fight if his man wasn't crumbling. But, Pac won't have that problem with Margo - Margo has none of the skills required to get Pac. And that slashing left-uppercut will only land is Pac chooses to stand and trade.
Only way this fight will enhance Manny's legacy is if he loses it. Then wins the rematch. I don't like this fight at all, to be honest.
If you're gonna bet, I think it depends where you look. I ain't really a betting man...especially on Manny fights lol...but he'll be a massive favourite in some markets so it might be worth that 20 quid. The bookies are often way off when it comes to boxing though. Remember they had as heavy favourites Tito over Hopkins and Lacy over Joe! Like i said it depends where you look, remember how Skybet broke the Manny vs. Cotto fight down so much deeper by actually giving 66:1 odds on Cotto by a MD which even if Cotto won by UD or SD, then you would lose your MD proposition. Some market makers are tied into Vegas but not indirectly, they are not "Vegas" itself with the early line pushing they do.
Yep, they'll have a field day with the controversy surrounding Margarito. TBH i don't see this doing big business at the box office. I think there'll be a slow take up initially and some of it will be to do with the dissapointment of the Mayweather fight falling through, the still lingering effects of US recession, the displeasure at a 'cheat' getting a mega pay day etc. But much of the shortfall will lie in the fact that Margarito can't speak English and while Pacquiao can, he just doesn't have that charisma of a Tito, Chi Chi Rodriguez or his idol De La Hoya lol to draw in the casual US fans' disposable income. Not to say that this won't break even or even make a lot of sells...Pacquiao did well with Clottey and has grown into a market success in the US after his demolition of Cotto and Oscar, but two stale personalities will hold this fight back from being a market rain maker IMO.
Margarito is not fast enough to be competitive with Pacquiao. Pac will be in and out at angles, constantly turning Margarito and landing at will. I see the ref having to stop it mid rounds to stop the punishment.
Pac's speed will be the difference here. I think there will be one or two shaky moments for him but overall it will be a prolonged beat down ending in a TKO or Margarito's team throwing in the towel. Won't be too much different from the Cotto fight actually. Interesting to note Dwyer (the YouTube tipster) thinks Margarito is the guy that could beat Pac. He has a really good record of picking fights (Martinez, Pirog, Katsidis, all of whom were underdogs that he got right.) :think
[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hkrStmHgn3g[/ame] I attached a link to his youtube home page on the word "Dwyer" in bold in my previous post also.
Dwyer is very good, but made a schoolboy error with Cotto-Foreman. Cotto was the more skilled, more experienced and more talented guy. Foreman could move and jab. Terrible pick. But, overall, he's worth listening to. He breaks down fighters' styles brilliantly. I also think Margo could beat Pac, but in his current condition... I'd be surprised. He's an open target so, unless Pac can do serious damage early, it's going 12. If it goes 12, Margo WILL catch him later in the fight. Then Pac just has to survive and use his buzzsaw attack to stop Tony from opening up. The more I think about it, the more I think this will at least be worth watching.
I'm working on the assumption that the reason Margarito didn't look so effective in the fight with Mosley, a fight in which he was a massive favourite to win, was because he didn't have his "special" handwrap solution. Nothing to do with styles making fights etc. -> pretty obvious I suppose. I also assume he wore them against Cotto, and in other fights before that (like the Lujan one, where he almost ripped Seb's ear off with a punch), because why would you start wearing them in a fight you're a big favourite in and not in other contests where the odds are more even and you appear to be at more risk of losing? Therefore I'm assuming his career up to this point has been a bit of a fraud, and he's actually not the beast he originally appeared to be, and therefore I assume that Pac is gonna beat the living **** out of him. A lot of assumption there, I know.
that video could of been done in 2 minutes rather than 10 if he'd speak a little quicker, anyhow i still see manny's accumalative punches taken its toll on Margirito's imo - weakened chin and winning by TKO
