I heard something like this about Abe Simon. Joe Grim may not have had such a condition but atleast it seems that he did not feel pain, considering the beatings he took.
I agree. Joe Grim was said to have skin when touched by his trainer, was said to exhude a large amount of oil, for what it;'s worth...
Yes, but he says here that he felt no pain from the punches and that he rarely felt any pain at all: http://books.google.com/books?id=wI...num=2&ct=result#v=onepage&q=abe simon&f=false Not sure if he had a condition or was just plain tough.
It would be a very, very stupid career to go down for someone with that condition. Most people with that condition die young as a result of it
I'm not even sure it would be a massive advantage to be honest, a lot of boxers are on record saying that the adrenaline in a fight makes them almost impervious to pain and I'm pretty sure that whilst they don't feel pain, they will still feel exhaustion from a hard fight and their senses can still be scrambled from taking a hard shot to the head.
Hello John, I'm 99.9% certain that I remember reading that Battling Nelson had some kind of condition of the nerves that made him immune to pain/rendered him with a much unbeleivably higher pain thresh hold than most normal people - I'm sure i read a quote from someone aswell about some kind of brutal (probably not legal) no-holds-barred type of tough guy competition he was in that involved two combatants basically charging at each other head first with hand tied behind back and basically ramming heads (literally like rutting stags) - and apparently on this one occassion the other guys nutty-slack was totally split open like a walnut while Bat came away without a mark on him and with no discernable distress or pain whatsoever!!? :scaredas:
Wonder if even though a fighter didn't feel the pain, his body would react like it did? like getting hit with a Ward liver shot.
I don't think Mike Ayala was feeling any pain against Danny Lopez...for a while anyway...But for entirely different reasons than having impaired nociceptors, or a genetic disorder.
I'm sure if hit with the right punch they would be knocked to the ground and unable to get up due to wobbly legs, even if they didn't feel the pain of the punch. As for body shots the wind would probably be knocked from them just like any other normal person but it might not last as long for them because the pain of the punch would not be there, just the effect on the breathing.
