Solo Boxeo Tecate: Matthyse vs. Castaneda & Lujan vs. Julio RBR

Round 1

Matthyse throws a few jabs and keeps Castaneda backing up. Finally Matthyse steps in to drive a hook into the cheek and glove of Castaneda and begins to look more confident. Castaneda down from a right hand and gets up only be clipped with another. Matthyse hits him hard with both hands and roughs him up against the ropes. Castaneda tumbles down from a combination. Again he gets up but Mastthyse rips him with body shots and sets up another right hand knockdown as Castaneda tries to escape and protect his body simultaneously. It's called off as a TKO1 victory for Matthyse

 

Sebastian Andres Lujan vs. Emilio Julio Julio

Round 1

Julio bangs forward with his 1-2 and Lujan lets him finish before taking the lead with his own jab to the body and right hand up top. Both are asked to keep their punches up. There is frequent collision as both men come forward with their heads down and trying to be first and last to land. Lujan tries a hook and is countered with a straight right down the middle. They get tied up for about the fifth time in the round and Lujan begins to swarm after the break, flashing his hands in Julio's face behind the jab. Julio keeps working the right hand, especially on the inside.

 

Round 2

Lujan throws wide overhand rights and mixes in jabs and hooks to the body. Julio is a bit calmer with his punching and times Lujan on the way in. A fierce exchange has Lujan driving Castaneda into the ropes but taking a lot of headshots as he works the body. A good uppercut from Lujan begins to land with regularity. Julio is now getting outpunched by a fired up Lujan and the hook starts to crash into his right cheek to punctuate every exchange. Lujan comes forward jabbing to the body and throws wide right hands until falling into a clinch. Lujan again lets his hands go and rocks Julio a bit until getting grabbed. Julio takes several flush hooks to the top of the skull and the body while laying back on the ropes.

 

Round 3

Lujan jabs his way in, shoeshining to the body when close enough, and keeping Julio on the defensive. Julio is more interested in tying up than counterpunching. Lujan is fighting his way inside and obliging Julio by wrestling but also working his free right hand. Julio is warned for holding. Lujan has his right arm caught and begins to pound the body of Julio with hooks. Lujan comes back at Julio with jabs out of a break and follows through with a chin-tapping uppercut. A hard right cross lands on the nose of Julio at the end of one heated exchange (again with Julio's back on the ropes).

 

Round 4

Lujan jabs and moves his head while pressuring. Julio watches him come and tries to push out a defensive jab when he gets walked into the ropes. Lujan is just stepping right through and landing right crosses at will. Julio shoves his forearm into Lujan's face as they clinch on the ropes and the referee yells at him. Lujan tags him with a combination of jabs and power punches to the face and Julio just keeps backing straight up into the ropes again. Lujan works both sides of his body until Julio grabs him. Lujan pushes his jab up into the top of Julio's face and alternately thrusts it down into his belly. He is able to stay right on top of Julio by doing this.

 

Round 5

Lujan is blasting his way in with wide net-casting right hands and left hooks. Julio is waiting until trapped on the ropes or in a corner to let his hands go and by this time Lujan has worked up an offensive lather which means that they wind up punching together. This results in Julio landing to the top of Lujan's bowed head and Lujan softening up Julio's body until they inevitably tie up. Julio again tries some rough stuff with Lujan pinned on the ropes and the ref takes a point this time. Lujan comes out with a pair of hooks to the body and gets grabbed. They trade to the bell with Lujan a little faster and more accurate in touching up the body while Julio tries to catch his moving head with a clean counter.

 

Round 6

Julio lands a good combination and Lujan seems pleased by it. Lujan begins to walk him down with uppercuts and finds himself clinched every time he reverts to jabbing his way in. Right crosses smash Julio in the face every time he reaches forward to grab Lujan mid-jab. Lujan backs him into the ropes and eats a long right hand counter in order to get close and go to work. They fight across the ring with Julio throwing while taking backward steps and Lujan just windmilling after him. Both are punching very wide and a bit sloppy. Lujan just keeps hitting wherever he can, with uppercuts to the middle and sides of Julio's torso and flinging jabs up in his face for good measure. Julio keeps waving his arms side to side more to protect himself than to try and land.

 

Julio quit on his stool.

 

Tata Baldomir is in the house! He looks to be in good shape as usual. He'll make a nice stiff test for Saul Alvarez.

Now it's Mateo Veron vs. Leandro Albronoz, 6 rounds @ welterweight.

 

Round 1

Albronoz circles left, jabbing cautiously around Veron as neither lands anything. Finally Albronoz charges forward with straight punches and they bearhug on the ropes. The orthodox left jabs keep canceling each other out as they throw at about the same time and have even handspeed. Veron takes a quick step to the side and the slides forward to land a 1-2 but isn't quite quick enough to do so before Albronoz can react.

 

Round 2

Albronoz again opens up with a hyperactive flurry that has Veron leaning back into the turnbuckle covering his head and then tying him up. A nice counter hook lands for Veron as he is stepping out of Albronoz's range. Albronoz settles down a bit and starts cautiously jabbing forward again. The jab stiffens up and begins to land with a thud on the chin of Veron. Albronoz is very tense, and jumps forward with a straight combo only to be turned and countered, left slicing air with his back to the ropes as Veron makes a clean getaway. Veron blocks a few jabs and ducks out the side door as Albronoz tries to pressure him into the ropes. Another counter hook lands for Veron.
