When you think about how the bombs flew when Ron fought two other big punchers in Foreman and Shavers this could be another. I think Ron boxed well enough to make him the favorite if it goes the distance but thats just not very likely. I think both of them would be dropped in the first five rounds and either of them could stop the other any time after. I'll take Ron by ko around 9, who's your pick?

Lyle had superior power, chin, and skill (and gets underrated by some in the first two areas). He probably stops Peter most nights.

if Lyle gets caught with a big shot it becomes a great slugfest. I think Lyle take a 12 round desicion just because Peter and himself are so damn tough. and Lyle proved he could slug with the best by going toe to toe with Shavers, Bonavena, Bugner, and Foreman.

    Lyle clear decision.

Lyle was no monstrous puncher despite what everyone says but he had good boxing skills and would be able to outpoint Peter more often than not.

maybe hes not a monstrous puncher but he's a good enough puncher to hurt ron lyle. if you consider that foreman did face some pretty heavy punchers like morrison, briggs, cooney, moorer, holyfield, and cooper, you've got to consider that Lyle was the only one to floor Foreman in one shot.
he's not an atg puncher, but that right hand is very heavy.

    Agreed.
Lyle is a tier above Peter.

Yes. I don't see this as even a fair match, to be frank. Sam Peter would get eaten alive during Lyle's time and wouldn't have likely held a title. Actually, I think David Tua is a tier above Peter as well. Maybe I'll think differently by the time Peter retires but I highly doubt it.

I don't see any area where Peter is superior.Lyle by late ko.

The '76 Foreman was past his best from a technical perspective, but he was still a devastating slugger with amazing brute strength & raw power.
He would have demolished Peter with no adversity.

Whereas Lyle dropped Foreman twice & nearly finished him in their legendary slugfest war.

This is a close fight. Lyle was the better conditioned fighter but other than the Foreman fight and the Shavers attrition KO, Lyle did not exhibit exceptional KO power. Peter had some KO's and has shown power but not a great puncher. Heavyweights that could punch but not killer punchers I would describe them as. I think this is a condition fight and I think Lyle's better handle on weight would give him the stamina edge although lately seems Peter is catching on to his fat issues.

The trouble w/ Lyle is that he was always fighting the guys tough to stop. Most punchers face guys that have a history of being easy to hit and to stop. Not Lyle--he gets the Bonavenas and the Bugners and Youngs and that caliber of guy. It would have been nice to have some Stander and those types for Ron. Then that ko% goes up quite a bit.

I'm more than certain if Peter wore those shoes and had to fight that same level of competition level Lyle fought from 74-78, his ko % drops a ton. Come to think of it, he likely loses another bout or 2.

Peter is puncher but his power is not close to Shavers or Foreman.Lyle by ko.
