The Dempsey is clearly above so and so heavyweights ****, when there's a balanced side to both opinions is getting to the point where its irritable, and more then a little below Classics standards.

Did Dempsey have an undentable, iron jaw that was any better then Tyson's? No. Both were stopped, and if anything Tyson showed the ability to soak up far more punishment then Dempsey.

Did Dempsey hit harder then Tyson? Arguable, though its funny how seemingly a human being can somehow punch so much more powerfully then Tyson, what with his combination of speed and power. :-(

Short punches, sure. Dempsey can have that.

Just so terribly much separating them, what with Dempsey's awesome, star studded resume of prime greats.

Sigh. There is nothing significant separating the two fighters when you look at the big picture.

Sigh. Classic, what is becoming of you. :-(

Don't let em bring you down Burt - ignore these idiots - I'd say there's about 5 or 6 complete wastes of skin on here - unfortunately we've been trying to argue to the back teeth with 2 of them on this very thread  generally people are pretty OK on here - don't let these guys spoil it - keep punching man - we need people like you on here - don't go anywhere :good

woah...you and shitnose are completely blowing things out of proportion. Nobody has suggested any of this, you always play the victim, burt. You always open up with snide, passive-aggressive comments downtalking later eras to that of your own and its usually unprovoked. But when someone mentions the negative points of your era, you are being attacked and victimised. We talking Tyson vs Dempsey...so we must look at the careers of both...failing to meet any black fighters in the ring, is a massive negative that needs to be discussed.

How many people on this thread are doing that ?

I see maybe one. And another who's doing it for Tyson and anti-Dempsey.

HEY, SHITNOSE, CALM THE **** DOWN, BRO! The colour line was drawn! Dempsey failed to meet black fighters! Namely no.1 contender of several years, Harry Wills! I have nothing against white folk, infact im pretty ****ing 100% white myself. You're making it into an issue outside of discussing this matchup! It is all very relevant!

Dempsey and Tyson are very similar as in both are very highly regarded despite having a very short peak and losing to their best opposition. The myth of invincibility has stayed with them for many people despite bad losses that both suffered.

I rate both of their ability quite highly but in the end find it hard to rank either above the lower end of top 10 at heavyweight.

Tyson was obviously a huge fan of Dempsey, but his techniques were trademark D'Amato style, see Patterson and Jose Torres. I imagine he simply identified with Dempsey considering he fought similarly, and admired the ruthlessness and power of Dempsey. D'Amato wanted his fighters to be all-out aggressive and exciting for the fans, Dempsey was one of the first who brought those in the ring at the highest level of the sport.

Duranium you must be on something??!! Your are truly a joke - you're the one who has been playing the victim - You just spent your last few posts rambling on about how blacks have been so hard done by and how blacks have dominated the entire history of boxing etc etc and then you're saying we're blowing things out of proportion - i think you're just getting a little embarrassed that you've been found out to be the racist that you are?? You're still rambling on about it now "failing to meet black fighters is a massive negative and that needs to be discussed blah blah blah blah blah!!!!!!" It's been discussed a million times!!!! - you just can't get rid of this chip on your shoulder - you just keep on trying to ridicule a fighter because you see him as part of the white enemy

You're totally brainwashed then mate - get a grip on yourself - so if Dempsey had've met Wills and sparked him in a round that would've made everything OK again for you??? Go have a word with yourself - ps don't tell me to calm down either - i'm sick of pricks like you bringing everyone down all the time - why don't you go throw yourself under a train and give us all a rest

Yes, because this thread is the sole one where this site has been drawn out for weeks, right?

    No, it's not.

There's been a dozen plus threads with this very same discussion, and it won't ****ing end. It's polluting, dominating the god damn board like the typical flavor of the week does around here in the past few months.

So I am playing the victim, you claim !!!
Where is Sigmund Freud, when we need him ? You have a visceral hatred of Jack Dempsey, that is churning inside of you, completely out of proportion to reality...You should channel your hatred to more worthy
tyrants that are threatening our world today...Have a good day.
    Yours truly.
    Burt {the victim].

Funny how this is how the thread started - just a thought on the style comparison between Tyson and Dempsey - funny how just because a few people highlighted the glaring differences between the two (and some areas where Dempsey was unquestionably better) that it started the tirade of ridicule from the reverse racism crowd until the thread morphed into a who's better: Tyson or Dempsey/ who would've won: between Tyson and Dempsey /Blacks are better than Whites thread  for the record Dempsey would beat Tyson - Tyson lost whenever the going got tough = Douglas/Holy I/Holy II/Lewis/Williams:lol:/McBride:lol::lol: - only two fights where he managed to pull it out of the fire were Botha (really awful performance by Tyson saved the fight literally with one tremendous shot) and Ruddock II

    1. The Dempsey situation is sort of like Tyson after prison, Tyson got a few warm up fights but didnt go past the 3rd making it little better than sparring. Its also similar to Leonard-Hagler, Ali-Frazier, Mayweather-Marquez, In terms of having 3 years out the ring. Dempsey wasn't as good or prime, but he wasn't vastly removed from his prime just like the forementioned weren't vastly removed from their primes

    2. Yes how many times have we seen a boxer underrated and a puncher overrated, reminds me of Tito-Winky and Hamed-MAB

    3. This is where hindsight shows us

    4. Gibbons is a good opponent but surely a bit of a cherry pick considering he was coming off loses to Greb, that and Dempsey was picking other opponents coming off loses to Greb. If Mayweather fights Cotto and Margarito in his next fights after both have been beat by Manny it would certainly be considered cherry picking, same thing

    5. 'Washed Up' is an exaggeration here, past prime, slowed, not as fit, yes, but washed up no and the Sharkey fight indicates he had a fair amount left
