Disagree. A Golden Gloves level amateur would be a handful for the standard MMA type with a couple years practicing a little bit of everything without really knowing anything. Now, if you're talking about a legit black belt in Judo or Taekwondo(rare these days) then that's another story.
For what exactly? Randy Couture beating James Toney is not an accomplishment, period. It's not impressive, it's not surprising.
Toney did have a chance. The possiblity of Coture gettin hit clean and hurting him enough to stop him. However when I saw the weight in, I had an idea that Toney had almost no shot. Ill give it to Coture, at 47 years old he came in great shape and Toney no chance by bringing the fight to the ground. Dana White seen this coming a mile away. IMO he did it to try prove a piont and make some coin aswell. Total side show last night. That kid from Tom River NJ is a tough fighter.:rasta
I think it went pretty much how most of us expected. As soon as it went to ground people thought Toney would be clueless. And he was.
Why don't we pin a soccer team against a basketball team and create a massive war thread on that too? these sports are different..leave it there.
Good job, Randy. You beat a 250-pound walrus who could hardly box at this stage, letalone wrestle. You must be very proud of yourself.
TBH the biggest question to me is how anyone could have liked Toney to start with, he is the most obnoxious and arrogant boxer there is lol. We should all just unite and be happy in the fact someone shut him the fook up. If toney hadnt spent so much time being so abusive to MMA and everyone in it (aswell as everyone else in the world) then i doubt the mma fans would be gloating so much. But he did so its unavoidable lol
Don't understand the interest in MMA - I watched the broadcast last night and to be honest MMA just sucks. Toney was awful and the guy who beat him looked in good shape and did not even break a sweat. JT was looking like a beached whale in there.
Every one who knows anything about martial arts and fighting in general must know that fighting only with hands(boxing) is limited against fighting with hands, legs, on the ground using techniques from judo, bjj, etc.MMA is a free fight so no doubt it will handle boxing easily.By the way most MMA fights ends on the ground, with constrictions, levers or hail of fists on opponents head. Boxer has only a chance with a lucky punch. IT very often comes when opponent is C class MMA fighter. With top MMA guy boxer has 1% chances.Thats for sure, and its just pure logic, nothing else.
