i want to see more of james toney in the ufc. but next time i hope he gets pitted against a striker and not a grappler so we can see him ktfo of people with those little 4 oz gloves. going against randy was a terrible matchup. maybe against chuck liddel or jardine or something. that would be perfect cause those dudes don't like being on the ground and don't even have a fraction of the boxing skill or power that toney has. can i get an amen?
Any mma fighter in the UFC (even if they were originally a pure kickboxer) would be so much better than Toney on the ground that they would take him down and sub him the way Couture did. To make it to the UFC guys usually have to have enough fights to show that they can deal with ground fighting to some extent and so none of them are as far out over their skis as Toney is. Even someone like Pat Barry would have enough skill on the ground to take him down and pound him out. Besides, considering what I've heard Toney made to get whitewashed last night ($750,000?) I doubt the UFC would put on another fight that ****ing lame again.
1) Barry is a former pro kickboxer, so I doubt Toney would somehow hit him harder than anyone else ever has. 2) How did that strategy work for Toney last night?
So he didn't land a single punch in is one mma fight and somehow he'd beat every other ufc fighter? I hope you're just trolling and not serious about this...
I do not think you have a choice about seeing more of James Toney in MMA because it is guaranteed he will be fatter than ever the next time he steps into the octagon.
Guys like liddell and jardine might prefer fighting on a stand-match on a usual basis, but I'm pretty sure they're take-down are good enough to put the current version of Toney down (w/c they will most likely do). Pitting against strikers are not the answer for Toney IMO. If he want to win in an MMA match, one of the first things he should add to his arsenal is a good takedown defense. If he could sprawl against the takedowns of his opponents, then they will most likely end up exchanging strikes.
