I agree..It would be tough for Joe Louis or Rooky, but I thing Joe and Rocky would win..Rocky and Louis never quit

I see Rocky by KO, massivly underrated by those who believe he is overrated.

Exactly. Liston would have certainly administered some punishing shots, but Marciano would have ultimately landed, and with his power in either hand, he would have dropped and stopped Sonny.

Are we talking about the one Sonny Liston?
The Sonny Liston that had his jaw broken by the great 180lb MArty Marshall and lost by SD?
The Sonny Liston that bitched out in round 7 complaining about the shoulder vs Clay?
The SOnny Liston that got dropped in rd 1 by Ali feather fist right hand?

    That great SOnny Liston?
Marciano would make him his ***** 90% time.

I think Liston would overpower Marciano, who really hasn't dealt with anybody Sonny's size...

im talking about the sonny liston that put floyd patterson to sleep in a round....

im talking about the sonny liston that destroyed eddie machen, cleveland williams and zora folley at their primes

(btw...he broke his jaw early in the marshall fight, and beat the **** out of marshall in the rematch)

im talking about the prime sonny liston, before he was ****ed up in the head because of the Mob, and was a hulking beast of a fighter, able to finish a fight with either hand and possessed a ramrod jab.....

    against a rocky marciano.....much smaller....

who only defended his title 6 times (winning it in his 43rd fight, prior to which he fought bums like willis applegate and art henri who all gave marciano hell in both fights)....

...whose 6 defenses included beating up on old, washed up greats, such as jersey joe and ezzard charles (both been in bruising wars YEARS before they met marciano, and suffered brutal defeats to a great joe louis).....roland la starza (who marciano had beaten YEARS before his title defence), don cockell (WHO?!!!!! LMAO) and ANCIENT archie moore (an ATG light heavyweight, who, moved up to heavyweight as an old man to face marciano...and even put rocky down in the first, before gassing)......

    i dont know about you....

    i pick liston by brutality

You have to respect Marciano's accomplishments in the sport and his will to win. But it just wouldn't be enough against Liston in a prime for prime match-up. Liston was too much of an awesome physical specimen to be beaten by Marciano. Rocky wouldn't give up but for me would be TKO'd inside 6 rounds.

You are putting forward an illogical argument based on the facts. A man who was never ever KOed in his entire career, with a granite chin is somehow likely to get KOed in an early round by Sonny Liston. Please, I admit a late round KO is possible, but this is ludicrous.

Everyone says the Rock was over-rated, but how do we know? He never lost.

Liston beats him up, breaks him down with the jab and stops him in a totally ordinary, routine defense. Rocky wouldn't be that much of a challenge for a prime Sonny Liston.

Longer reach than Lennox Lewis, powerful as George Foreman with an excellent telephone pole jab and sledgehammer right hand.

No, we're talking about a prime Sonny Liston. Ali wasn't much when Holmes beat him either.

    You ******.

Marciano was a champion in a time of **** heavyweights. He was the best at that time, but he had never faced a fighter as good or as big as Liston. Rocky had too many weaknesses to defeat a fighter like Sonny, who would have ate Marciano up as Rocky tried to get inside Sonny's reach. I see Rocky getting knocked down and either stopped on cuts or just flat out kayoed.

A good part of his reason for retiring was his back problems. Well documented and had bothered him for a while.

He did not have a good relationship with his manager, who took half of every purse.

Finally, he had beaten every serious opponent around at the time, some of them twice. Liston wasn't even on the radar yet.

Style wise not a good mathup for Rocky. Marciano was tough as nails and would always rally but not this time Liston too much and also hits harder and stronger than any one the Rock has fought. I believe that Liston was the first heavyweight that could handle any of the giant heavys today.

    Liston tko 7
