His footwork was bull**** against Calderon. Your not suppose to ever cross your feet like that like your walking. His defense was porous which is why he was hit CLEANLY on his way in at times especially in some of the early rounds. Good fighter in close. Terrible at a distance. Would get outboxed by any fighter in a conventional stance or a southpaw who has 1punch ko power. He beat Calderon. It doesnt make him the all around better fighter. :good:good
I think that Segura's defense could probably be better than what we saw. I think he just didn't care about Calderon's punches and just walked him down. I do see him having much more problems with a bigger puncher, but hes a good fighter.
The only fighters at that weight with 1 punch KO power are Vilora and perhaps Sosa. I think he would demolish Vilora but have problems with Sosa. If I were him I would stay away from Archie Solis though, hes all bad for Segura.
Thats just it, Segura had no respect for Calderons punches and was fine getting hit to get his more punishing shots in. Segura is a good fighter, Not great just yet, but good. Where he lacks in skills and Technique he make up in power, will, and conditioning.
This guy really reminds me of Margarito. Those uppercuts looked just like Margarito's work. You can tell Margarito's trainer has worked on that with him.
I agree, Segura is like a smaller version of Margo. Well let's see how long he can hold on to those belts.
Obviously as has been mentioned he had complete disdain for Calderon's power..and thats exactly how he should have fought him. That being said defense had never been a big concern of Segura's even, when he is facing fair dinkum light flys with power. He was always going to look pretty raw and uncoordinated on the way to victory fighting a guy like Calderon, but he grinded him into the ground. Vic Darchinyan had big raps on him when they sparred. He wont be easy to beat at this weight if he can keep making it no worries, but whilst he wont be easy to beat because of what he brings physically , he certainly is very beatable. Ill check him out next time he is on T.V for sure...he is pretty good value.
If Calderon can't outbox him, everyone else is going to have a damn hard time doing it as well. Gonna have to be someone with serious power, and there's nobody with that kind of power who can box like Calderon. If Segura doesn't respect your power, he will hunt you down and annihilate you. If Calderon couldn't get away from him, I don't know who can.
Everyone seems to be underrating Segura's boxing skills. The guys sure has some deficiencies but it wasn't just his brawling that made Calderon quit.
Giovanni Started boxing when he was 20 he took out the best in his weight and cleaned his division he did such a good job he made Calderon quit
That's true, most of his fighting prior to that was in the streets. I think they gave him very little amatuer fights then at age 20 he went pro.
