Plenty of calls for a lifetime ban of players who are found to be implicated within the scandal.

To me it's hardly surprising that Pakistan players find themselves attracted to bookmakers..... they play endless amounts of meaningless one-dayers and T20 matches, where the slightest deliberate mistake can easily go unnoticed in the frenzy of it all.

Although nothing should lead to that outcome, there is an excuse.

Those kinds of ''errors'' will be exposed more in Test cricket, in particular some of the shockingly bad dropped catches - many of which were harder to drop than take - and with England and Australia being their most recent opponents, as the two remaining nations to put Tests as the #1 form of the game they are bound to be outed much quicker.

gambling is illegal in Pakistan, so i guess they'll also take advantage of the bookmakers whenever they are on tour. i'm sure the authorities in pakistan will be handing out some lifetime bans even before the ICC decide on punishment.

Yeah but they will probably be over-turned. I've lost count of the number of times the PCB has banned players, and then reversed the decision or reduced the sentence, and we talk about the various boxing oranisations being corrupt and incompetent. Still, the ICC wil probably do something this time. I don't know about a life ban for everyone, but a ban for maybe 4 years for first time offenders? and a life ban for those who have history e.g. Asif being guilty of using steroids.

The PCB overturned the lifetime ban for Malik, even though he was guilty as sin, over offering Shane Warne and Tim May and the Waugh twins $250k to split to perform badly in a match in 1994.

If you read the case report a judge (Qayyum if I recall) made some recommendations that still haven't been put in place.

Until the PCB are brought to account for their actions by the ICC the issue will keep coming to a head unfortunately.

Its easy to sit here handing out life bans when we have no idea of the circumstances. That's their entire career over, so I think you have to careful incase there were circumstances that pushed them into this.

They'll still deserve a harsh punishment for not going through the proper channels and falling to temptation but, I think we need to learn the full picture first.

I feel sorry for that young Amir kid. At only 18 and had just entered the team the previous year you would have to feel that he was probably pushed into it by other senior players or agents. It'd be a great shame if Amir was robbed of a great career, the lad looks unbelievable for his age.

Definitely - but if they are guilty of any form of match fixing, it should be an automatic life ban.

There's a difference between speaking to bookies and giving information about pitches and the weather - which anyone can provide - to blatantly fixing the outcome of a match.

Now I think of it, the article mentions Kamran Akmal as one of the main men involved..... just been watching Sky News now showing his ''errors'' in the past year, you do have to wonder :think

Not taking the bails off when he could clearly see that a batsman would most likely be out..... under 10 style dropped catches.... I'm surprised he hasn't blatantly booted his stumps over too :-(

Edit - agreed about Amir, the best young quick I've seen.
