Just finished watching it. Very good fight. Segura never stops coming forward, and Calderon just didn't have enough pop in his punches to keep him honest. And also, reading the comments on that thread has reinforced my intention to never post in the General Forum again.:good:deal
It was tremendous, shame it was just me a and a few others actually participating in the General RBR! For a legitimate World Title I was quite shocked by that. Seem many USA boxing fans actually forked out for a UFC PPV rather than the Calderon-Segura fight :-( I thought Calderon looked fantastic in the first 3-4 rounds, he made Segura look like a boxing novice. I think the body shots is what won Segura the fight. I think it was the 4th where Calderon stood against the roped and let Segura wail away at the body, it was all downhill from then. Seems like Calderon doesn't have much left but I would still be highly supportive of a rematch. It was just too good
Before the fight Segura said he gave in to all of Calderon's demands to make the fight happen. Yesterday, I read that Segura agreed not to wear Reyes gloves, went to Puerto Rico and fought in a 24x24 foot ring. Despite all of this he still pulled off the win :bbb Still haven't seen the fight, but a question for those that have...is it FOTY worthy?
As I alluded to in the other thread, it's defo my FOTY so far. Have you read Segura's comments on the Scene today? The dude oozes class.
Hadn't read the article until now. Very classy as you say, it's hard not to like the guy - he always comes to fight and makes the best of the talent he has. and he's the first to admit he's not the most skilled but he's willing to take anyone on. Outside the ring he's up there with Sergio Martinez in terms of showing respect for the sport and his opponents. I'm just hoping he gets some more exposure now, Arum should put him on some of the big PPV undercards. If Pac-Mayweather ever does get made lol I'd love it if Segura was the co-feature or something against a quality opponent. In a year or so it'd be brilliant if Gonzalez steps up and fights Segura. Before the fight "Chocolatito" said he wants the winner of Segura-Calderon so he better keep to his word :yep:bbb. Segura-Gonzalez has FOTY written all over it :happy
What do you reckon is FOTY so far? This year has been really slow in terms of great fights, the past few years we've had 4 or 5 solid contenders at the very least by this time of year :-(.
I've got Froch vs Kessler way ahead. In the past few years it would struggle to make the top 5, but in such a shockingly bad year...... can't even remember that many good domestic fights either.
My fave is Vea vs Siale, with Mares vs Perez, Calderon vs Segura, Sykes vs Morris, Kessler vs Froch and some 4 rounder that was on Fight Night Club (forgot the fighters names :yep) just behind. But yeah, it has been a pretty slow year. Edit: The 4 rounder was Oscar Andrade vs Ramon Valadez I think. Edit: Edit: Leapai vs Walker deserves a mention too.
My fight of the year is probably Sykes-Morris thus far. Perez-mares second and Martinez-Mungia,Froch-Kessler and this making up a top five. I enjoyed Pavlik Martinez too. Been a real slow year for great fights though
Miguel Roman - Antonio Escalante was probably my FOTY before Saturday night, but the historical significance of Calderon-Segura gives it the honours. I'm fully expecting Juanma-Rafa and possibly Froch-Abraham to to be up there by the end of 2010.
