So fighters who were not great boxers, could punch, and who just seemed to have the opponents number - inspite of the opponent being a better fighter. Can you think of any examples? I'm looking for occasions where such a puncher beat a better boxer for 2/3 at least...or 1-0-1 would be fine, actually. Note, both/all wins don't have to be KO's.

Talking to Q and GreatA about Smith-Johnson got me thinking about this.

EDIT: Guys who fought twice or more.

Shavers was 1-0-1 against Young, many feel Young deserved a win in their second fight however.

Barkley/Hearns is the boring generic answer, of course.

Carl Thompson beat a blown up Eubank twice, though those really aren't terrible wins because Eubank wasn't terribly old and down at even SMW was one of the biggest weight drainers ever.

Mayorga vs Forrest. In my mind, Forrest still has all the attributes to beat him. Somwhow, he just couldn't.

My girlfriends versus me, I managed to outland them, backen up their eyes, bust up their noses, generally outpoint them but in the end they ko'd me, what can I say I gave it my best

    Also Shavers-Norton, Sanders-Wlad, Prescot-Khan

Although he was robbed of the official decision both times, I've always felt that George Chaplin had Greg Page's number in head to head competition, especially after their rematch, when one might have expected Greg to really be after Chaplin to make amends for that first poor showing.

Because its generic and redundant, and before I ever had replied saying it was generic before seeing your post, bam someone had posted it.

Oleg Maskaev against Hasim Rahman as well. Rahman certainly accomplished more though I don't know if he'd be considered a "better" fighter then Maskaev.

Hearns-Barkley is a fine answer, I hadn't thought of it. Lots of grand answers.

Pep vs Saddler could count, although it wasn't really Saddler's punch that won the fights, more his ugly mauling style. Although he took Pep out in the first match.

I don't think of Pep as Saddler's superior though.

    How did you score one?

    Not that funny though.

Its a really good example for this thread. Barkley used his power - basically that's all he used - to defeat a far superior fighter. Which the thread asks for.
