Margarito blasts de la hoya, calls him a sissy

Damn Zooka i cant believe you dont think Vargas at his best (Campas, Clarke, Ike, Winky, Tito, Hoya) is not a better fighter then Margarito.


I take NOTHING away from Marg, he gets short changed for what hes done (one look at some of the top 154lbers today and hes eather beat them, or at least faught them) and at his best he is a beast....

But there is no way hes a better fighter then Fernando Vargas, and if they would fight, say.... the Vargas that fought Trinidad, Ike, Winky or Hoya, against the best Margarito, at 154lbs, Margarito would have been outboxed, and punished, BADLY.

Im not going to sit here and say that my boy Feroz doesnt get overrated, that is for another time, but this subject right now.... that Margarito is somehow > Vargas as a fighter? Is absurd man.

A young Vargas, at his best, would do a number on Margarito...

I will say that legacy wise and all time ranking, that Vargas might not have done enough to be above Margarito all that much.... Margarito has beaten a few quality fighters, and a lot of solid ones, and had a much longer career then Fernando.

But in terms of who was ACTUALLY a better fighter at there best, and who would win H2H, i dont see what Margarito brings to the table at all thats going to trouble a prime Vargas at 154lbs.

In fact, a past it, on his way out, one eyed vargas in his last semi decent showing before becoming a TOTAL shell of himself fought Mosley to a better fight then Margarito did while mosley was YEARS younger. And the Ike Quartey that Fernando fought would def be a problem for quite a few of these 147 and 154lbers today. And the Oscar that Vargas fought and gave one of his toughest fights ever against would dominate Margarito, and my boy Cotto, and so would the Vargas that showed up to fight Hoya.

I dont know man, i totally understand where you are coming from, and if we are talking legacy's, i wouldnt argue with you.... but prime Vargas is a better fighter then Margarito in my eyes, and that is not bias. I dont see how someone can look at

Hoya vs Vargas
Vargas vs Winky
Vargas vs Ike
Tito vs Vargas
Vargas vs Campas

and then look at any fight from Margarito, and come away with seeing Marg as a better fighter. Longer career? def, better wins? i wouldnt argue on that, placed higher all time? if i disagree, i wouldnt argue cuz i could see ones point.

But Margarito being a better fighter i just dont see it. The ONLY thing he brings that is better then anything fernando does is being able to take a punch better, and his workrate. But even then, when Fernando needed to, in his prime he would pump out 80-100 punches per round if he needed to, even in championship rounds.

To each their own though, this is just IMO. But bias and my favoritism aside, i think the Vargas that they all fought back in the day is a better scalp, and a better fighter, then any version of Margarito. And if they had ever fought at 154 head to head, peak vs peak, Nando would do a number on him IMO. Vargas does everything but take a punch, better then Margarito. He was just a class above.
