Just read an old interview with George. I think the old boy is prone to delusions,at times. He claimed that his 1994 self would have beaten the Zaire Ali on points.....! No offence to George but that version of him would have had his face swollen up like it was in his '92 bout with Alex Stewart, and in half the time. Thoughts ?
Actually,I can see a compassionate Ali beckoning the referee in,like he did in the second Jerry Quarry fight. I would n't normally do a thread on such a one sided hypothetic fight, but as George, himself raised the topic,I decided to run with it.
yeah but nobody really stopped george in his comeback. unless we're talking about the Foreman that fought Moorer? Yeah, Moorer was easily outboxing him and his bad chin let him down. Ali wouldn't have to worry about that because he would take George's best shot. I forgot about the 94' part. 91' Foreman would probably make the distance.
Foreman in the 90's was much more ring savvy than he was in his first career. I don't think he would have fallen for the rope-a-dope. However there might not have been a more ring savvy boxer than Ali in the 70's. Foreman needed to land that one big shot on Moorer to beat him. That's always a danger for anyone including Ali. I don't see Foreman landing that one big shot. Ali by decision.
Old Foreman won't be able to cut off the ring as a young Foreman did against Ali and thus no "rope-a-dope" will ever need to take place. Ali wins with relative ease.
Right, what Foreman gained in wisdom and ring savvy, p), he lost in speed and aggression. Ali still could box and move quite well certainly enough to duplicate Tommy Morrison's performance.
Easy and I mean EASY for Ali. The only win of MEMORABLE significance that George posted in that era was the one punch salvation against Moorer.
About the easiest fantasy victory for Ali I can imagine. Ali was able to dance and wrestle with Joe Frazier in early 74, he would certainly be able to get around old Foreman. The difference in speed between Foreman in 91 and 94 is rather shocking really, you can tell that the Foreman who fought Moorer was not as good or as fast as the one that fought Holyfield. And if Foreman couldn't take Ali out with one big shot (or a combination of big shots for that matter) when he was young, how is he going to do it when he was old?
ali Decision - BUT Foreman has a punchers'-chance to KO Ali if he lands a haymaker on teh chin, cos Old Foreman is in top 5 powerfullest HW punchers.
