i found this very interesting thread on mma.tv a huge mma fourm site the guy who made this thread has some very good points From: boxingman This content is protected This content is protected Posted: 48 minutes ago Member Since: 10/14/02 Posts: 219 This content is protected | This content is protected | This content is protected | This content is protected | This content is protected | This content is protected | This content is protected i posted this and it shows how much of a class guy couture is and i am very sure that it is unlikely the fight was fixed....but with toney boxing next mouth it is very fishy [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KuZZA2QljPs[/ame] cause 1, toney didnt throw anything 2.couture took him down which is no shock 3. on the ground couture did not hit him much and only kept going for an arm trinagle a choke that would never injury the guy...while toney did not look worried trying hard to get out 4. odd since he talked **** about couture and his sport for 6 mouths 5. and most odd of all toney has a fight next mouth in boxing, add this to the fact that couture never tried any moves that could injury toney 6. a fight is not just set up in 2 days, if the rumor is true that toney is fight in a mouth or so like i read on boxing sites, they had to be setting the fight up from a while before.....odd since toney was fight in a new sport where he could get injuried but who knows randy is a good guy though and doesnt seem to the type to go through with this....the same cant be said for toney though lol interesting that that if you read the whole thread many people
to those that have never grappled before....an arm triangle is a choke which does not damage your health there are many submissons that like arms bars and kimura's which injury arms and shoulders leg locks, knee bars which injury knees, ankles, etc all of these are not hard to do on a unexperienced guy. most people on the thread are saying that toney just came in for the money and did not train and caused embrassment for both sports
I disagree but it wouldn't completely surprise me either. Toney was looking for a paycheck, nothing more, nothing less.
Lets all thank James Toney for going to the UFC being so classy prefight and representing Boxing inside the octagon. :happy UFC fans who have never watched boxing before probably now think that most boxers are as big of a dick as Toney is. And lost respect for the sport.
Who even cares if it was fake? If anybody but UFC fans bought UFC 118, it's their own fault for being naive and getting duped. The only outrage for boxing fans would be if a boxing match turned out to be fixed or fake. If it's just some crossover circus affair in MMA? Eh, whatever.
No. It has long been established that boxers can not have succes in MMA. As David Haye says, years would not have been enough.
Come on.... it wasn't fixed... toney is an old man who looks terribly slow even in the boxing ring now.
i see no reason why randy would take any risk trying to trade, on or off his feet he went WAY low to get his single, popped into mount (looked like a damn 18-year-old compared to toney's slow ass) and had total control GnP is either to literally beat the hell out of someone, or to soften them up for a sub...make them give up their back....try a scramble and open themself up for sub, etc. since he had total control, he just dragged toney to the cage and choked him out fast....which was much faster and easier than trying to pound a guy who has taken much harder shots than couture could deliver
James lost....that's it guys! He deserves props for taking this kind of challenge that presented this much RISK! Toney hung his hat on the small chance his talking and boasting would draw Randy into a stand up fight....even for just moments. That's all he'd need to let his hands win him the "impossible". But Randy is smarter than lets say a Tim Sylvia who KNOW a boxer like James would be dangerous enough to capitolize on any mistake Randy would make. Randy didn't make any mistakes. he immediately took James to his territory and beat him up and choked him out. He "welcomed" James to MMA the professional way. Randy fought his fight and James didn't have a chance. I thought he'd be a bit more capable on the ground but James showed no signs of knowing what to do to better his position. It wasn't fixed!
Why would it make any sense for a Billion dollar company to risk it's product for a throwaway piece of **** like toney? What would the point even be? The end result was inevitable.
