Thats because you are thinking of a street fight between bums. Trained fighters like Randy would execute you with skill and perhaps throw in the odd head stomp.

You're right. It didn't prove anything. Just a reaffirmation of what we already knew.

Rest assured, Zakman will bring EXACTLY the same ignorance to any mma discussion as he will to any boxing discussion. He's far to much of a chicken **** to every actually experience anything that he talks about, lest it prevent him from talking down those much much braver and more knowledgeable than himself. It's far easier to mock people's "glass jaws" when you have no concept of taking a punch yourself, and it's far easier to call grappling "rolling around on the ground" when you've never checked your non-existent balls by trying it. It's not so much that he's an annoying mock-know-it-all, since this board is full of them. It's that there are some poor morons who actually read what he says and put stock in it.

Here is where the line gets ****ing drawn, after the Toney Coture fight, they kept saying countless times that Toney was the 1st boxer to ever step up and get inside the octagon time and time again you heard that after the fight.....

Rewind, UFC gave Mercer a shot, and when Mercer had his first attempt he was choked out, in his 2nd attempt against Silvia he stopped him with in seconds......

Toney was not the first boxer to ever step in the octagon it went something like this.

Dana White: I really need to find a boxer willing enough to get in the octagon to prove my sport is better...
Lets start with finding an old boxer wouldnt want to have any mistakes with them four ounce gloves against a boxer who has a clear advantage standing up....

Okay **** it lets get old ass ray mercer, not a bad choice he fought Lennox lewis and Holyfield two great heavyweight champions and he also fought well against them....
first fight he tapped... wow this **** really worked out lets put him in there with Silvia... Uhh Ohh Boxing has just exposed MMA ummm what to do now...?

Down play it dont call mercer for any more fights.... (which is what happend none of those MMA guys wanted to fight ray since that knock out)

Okay give it some time we will come up with something.... Okay well getting an Old Boxer didnt exactly work out as planned any possibility we can find and old shot fighter who is out of shape?:think
No not really Holyfield still trains... wait a second what about James Toney the guy who trains at Popeyes chicken? Ahhh brilliant and get him in there with a guy whos game is on the ground.... Perfect...

Of course things went as planned and now they are looking for another to cross over and fight, Why doesnt MMA take their best striker, who is in their prime and have them come over to our sport..... I think the world knows why they dont want to do that.....
Bottom line MMA cant say its more dominant than boxing totally different sport... and whats ****ed up is they use this fight as sort of proof when in reality it means ****.....

Oh my God, you have this SOOOO wrong. I guess I have to repeat this once again. Dana didn't go looking for Toney. Toney came groveling to Dana, begging for a fight repeatedly. Dana didn't want it at all at first. He knew that it would be a pathetic freak show. However, Toney persisted and followed White around everywhere and even threatened to visit his home until he finally got a fight. Eventually it became apparent that if Toney didn't get a fight he'd just pull his usual pitiful, "Everyone in the UFC is afraid to fight me" routine, the same as he has complained about boxing. White finally caved in. Especially since Toney was talking major crap. It was gut check time for Toney.

As far as age, Couture is actually older than Toney. No one in boxing ever complained about age with George Foreman when he still held a belt. When the Kimbo/Mercer fight was initially in the stand-up, Kimbo still got the best of him. Kimbo didn't take him down out of desperation. He was just having his way with him. Mercer appeared completely out of sorts.

Tim Sylvia was banished from the UFC for his late pattern of lackluster performances. Everyone including other MMA fighters (like Fedor) were easily knocking out Sylvia at the time. It's hardly something for a boxer to hang his hat on. Dana tried to give Toney a striker in Kimbo who would have stood with him and your precious hero Toney declined. Probably because he saw what he did to Mercer.

Toney wanted Couture. Toney thought that he was going to have an easy fight with Couture because he isn't a great striker by any means. He thought that he'd just knock him out in the first ten seconds. He believed all sorts of really stupid things. It was his own combination of arrogance and ignorance about MMA which lead him to this demise. He got exactly what he asked for and he embarrased himself. Stop making excuses for him. He even called out Lesnar. He's so damn lucky that he wasn't fed to Brock. He would have left looking ten times worse than Frank Mir in his second fight with Brock. Dana actually showed him some pity.

Your entitled to your own opinions but you're not entitled to your own facts. Please spare us of your revisionist history as to how this all went down.

Toney did go out looking for Dana your right, but Dana since the very start has been set out attempting to claim his sport is more dominant, its crazy how people can cast **** all over fighters caught roiding up loading their gloves calling them a disgrace to the sport becuase that can take a mans life.....

Yet in MMA you can choke a mother ****er to win, and basicly put another mans life at risk.....
Bottom line is, Dana got what he was out to get and they have blown this **** up as if its something special it doesnt mean **** to beat up a old fat middleweight and then turn around and lie saying he is the first boxer to step in the octagon.... get that **** out of here, Mercer already put it down for Boxing and since Mercer hasnt got a call back....

When are these MMA guys going to grow some balls and come over to our sport? okay you can argue KJ Noons but look at his boxing record... there is a reason he is in MMA.

My point is simple MMA is not better than Boxing its two entirely different sports, thats like asking a hockey player to try out against Tiger woods....

That's not true at all. Dana had always shown respect for boxing. He still respects Toney as a boxer. It wasn't until big mouth Mayweather and other boxers started claiming that MMA fighting was for "animals" and "beer drinking white guys" that he began to take a defensive posture and justifiably so. Is he supposed to just sit there and take it? Would the boxing community accept such an affront by Kimbo Slice who is now trying his luck in boxing? Of course not.

Oh my God this Ray Mercer obsession turns up AGAIN? How many times do I have to refute this nonsense? Mercer beat a washed up Tim Sylvia who was already banished from the UFC for stinking up the place. Fedor knocked him out just as easily as Mercer did. Kimbo anniahlated Mercer in 72 seconds both in the stand-up and on the ground. It means nothing!

What are you talking about with roids? Steroids? Ummm, you better check James Toney's past.

No one is blowing this fight up other than the fact that Toney was forced to back up all of his loud mouth trash talk. That's what this is all about. If he would've been humble and respectful MMA fan reactions would've been much more diplomatic for the most part.

People keep rehashing the same old tired, invalid arguments. As far as an MMA fighter in boxing, I already covered that topic in my 'Comparing Boxing & MMA' thread (see below).

Boxers asking MMA fighters to fight on their terms is like this. "'I'll fight you, but you can't body slam me, choke me, kick me, submit me, wrestler me, take me down in any way, or do anything other than punch me". An MMA fighter will say, "I'll fight you and you can use whatever tools you have against me".

That's a great slogan you're working on there.

    Boxing can't stop the ****.

Want to get ****ed by a grappler? Learn to box.

Boxing, defend everything except your butt hole. You know you want it.

Want to decide who gets ****ed? Grapple. Wanna give it up in a real fight? Box.

Great link enjoyed it. who won seemed to stop at round 4.

Not exactly the sweet science though you have to admit. more like an extended after pub car park brawl.

Always wondered what the reasons behind your irrational and unprovoked beef with me were, when all I had done that I could see was express opinions that differed with some that you held. Now I can see clearly what it was - jealousy! :nod:lol:

Well, maybe when you've followed the sport of boxing for nearly 35 years you will accumulate an understanding with enough depth that your opinion is as respected as a boxing elder such as myself. Until then, maybe you can learn to learn something from those of us who have been around.

If you don't like the perspective I bring - which is a fan's perspective, not a participant's, and is just as valid - you don't have to read my stuff. But your repeatedly attacking me personally, rather than arguing with my positions, says far more about how petty you are than it reflects on me.

As for cage-fighting, one doesn't need 35 years to accumulate the necessary knowledge (in fact I shudder at the boredom one would have to endure to accumulate it:lol:) - all one needs is to watch a few of these roll-fests, IF you can remain awake, to see that this crap is no threat to the sweet science in terms of entertainment value, legacy or grandeur.

An old, shot Mercer KO'd former HW champ Sylvia..

Toney/Couture doesn't mean anything. There are many great mma fighters that are successful these days using boxing skill.

btw, Toney was a natural MW and was prime at MW.
