Overall, but I'd venture that Benitez might be the greater counterpuncher. When the ******* decided to train properly for a fight. Second greatest. This content is protected
Well, the first half wasn't (as that's my view on the outcome as well). :yep That last dig was just pure provocation.
I'd say Floyd was a better counterpuncher, but you could argue that point, I'm sure. Of all the footage I've seen of Benitez, I fail to see what he would bring to the table that could actually get him the win over Floyd. He doesn't have a stylistic advantage to work with.
SRL beats Floyd 10 out of 10 times. Of course, Floyd has the ability to make it close in some, but overall, just not quite good enough for SRL at 147, which I assume they would fight at.
Benitez was a pretty incredible fighter, by all accounts. Leonard himself said he was the most talented fighter he ever faced in his career, and that after he adjusted fighting him was like "looking in a mirror". He's also a natural welterweight as well, but Floyd-Benitez is another thread. And a really boring fight to watch.
Yep, hence the "Yawn". Just pure trolling, and a weak shot at it. There's no issue really with people picking Leonard by stoppage. It's a viable outcome (though not one I agree with). It's just comical to watch people take shots at Floyd in the thread like, "Floyd vs. LEONARD, LOL NO WAY", as if Leonard didn't go the distance in competitive fights against some guys of quality lesser than Floyd.
Styles make fights, if you're going to sit back and try to counter Leonard, you're going to get raped.
Well, it could be argued that the size disparity could cover the rift in skills. Obviously not just anyone Benitez's size would be able to overcome such a rift, but being a talented boxer in his own right and not too far behind Floyd in some areas, the size could be a big factor (pardon the pun). Wilfred's about the same dimensions as Oscar, who was able to use his size to get in position to do offensive work against Floyd but no longer had the trigger instincts to execute with his hands. If we're talking about a match at 147 or 154, Benitez would be very much in his skin and could bully Floyd into a tight spot using his frame alone and try to pick him off with right hands.
I'd take Floyd over Arguello head to head and resume-wise at 130lbs. That said, Arguello is a fair shout. That would have been a classic fight. Two guys with a very comprehensive offensive skillset and both incredibly crafty defensively....
No doubt about it. Floyd vs. Benitez is on my wish list along with Floyd vs. Whitaker. I love defensive masterpieces... of which there are far too few.
I've already said Leonard would win this fight. Not by "****", though. As I said before, lesser fighters fought competitive with Leonard and saw the final bell than Floyd.
