What exactly constitutes "high level" submissions then, if Nog and Maia are all basic level?

dont pay attention to that man. Nog and Maia are the crem de la crem at BJJ along with Jacare and Penn.

so now jacare nog maia and bj are all on the same level give me a break.

that like saying anderson silva is on the same level as nathan Carnage Corbett.

yeah if anderson silva can go out and prove his skill, but outstriking mma fighters is not the same as outstriking real muay thai fighters.

thats whats interesting about mma, fantastic bjj guys can be nullified on the ground by guys that are not in their league.

Most submissions by themselves are "basic".

What is "high level" is baiting and set up to get those submissions. Positioning, threatening, etc...

Roger Gracie, BJ Penn, Gabriel Gonzaga, Mario Sperry, Marcio Pay De Pano, Fabricio Werdum, Roberto Traven, Andre Galvao, Murilo Bustamante, Jacare, Shaolin Riberio, Bibiano Fernandes are some of the notable MMA fighters to win the World Jiujitsu Championships (Mundials) the most prestigious BJJ tournament in the world. I think winning that tournament alone just one time is enough to put you into a class of your own where you are considered to be a world class Blackbelt Jiujitsu fighter.

From what I understand, and I could be wrong, but from what I've been told and all that we talk about in the gym as far as presteige goes...ADCC is where it's at in grappling. Although it is no-gi, it seems to carry the most clout in the grappling world. Mundials is something amazing to win, don't get me wrong, just seems that ADCC is the gold/platinum standard in the grappling world.

And, while winning is very impressive, I don't think you can begin to compare the winner from, say, 2000 to the winner of today. BJJ has evolved so much, on par with MMA evolution, and the BJJ theory is so much more advanced today that it's relatively comfortable to say with fair certainty that the elite grapplers of today would have a very good advantage over the elite grapplers of even a decade ago. Not to say that it'd be significant but it would be noticable.
