****, thats a tough one to answer. I just had a wee look back through both guys records, & I would say its pretty even stevens. Both guys have some fine W's on their records, similar in stature. Of course Ricky has two losses, but both came against the best of the best. Calzaghe never fought one 'best of the best' never mind two like Hatton did, so I wouldnt count the losses against Joes shiny unbeaten record when trying to reach a conclusion. Both guys best wins? Hattons has to be Kostya of course, Calzaghe? I would say his best Win is Kessler. Once again though, thats just a personal opinion. Based on records alone, I would score Calzaghe v Hatton a draw. Back in my Hatton hating days I would have picked Joe, but age mellows a man, & absence makes the heart grow fonder I suppose, so now I can look back at Hattons career without the red mist coming down, & it was a pretty impressive one, only tainted by going for Mayweather & Pac, massive gambles which if he had won either, he would have had gone down as possibly the greatest brit fighter of all time! Joe never took that risk, & thats why I cant look at his unbeaten record now & say it deserves more respect than Hattons. However, with all due respect to the thread starter this is a bit of an old hat discussion on ESB nowadays, UNTIL that is, one or both of them come back:hey So, judge Dunky McCafferty score the fight 114-114(crowd boos)
Joe C Wale's career is so darn frustrating for those of us who realise how talented he was. What I don't understand is Joe's history of lacking confidence and backing out of fights. With that Italian dna of being a mean SOB and that British cerebral upbringing of being able to adapt against any style of fighter...I just don't understand why Joe seemed timid in not going for broke earlier in his career. Really frustrating.
Fan or not of either (Calzaghe wound me up like anything), like it or not, I think boxing and British boxing has missed them both.
I'm pleased we saw a British boxer get in there with Floyd and Pac, give it a go. Goes without saying how good those two are, their status with time will just grow and grow.
