Like most, i lean towards Foreman stopping him early, like he did to Joe.

But, every single one of Marciano's opponents stated that he was a lot harder to hit than he looked. And i think that this is the key to this fight. If Foreman cant land the big punches early, Rocky's chances start to improve dramatically. If this is a 15 round fight, the last 5 rounds would seem to be very, very interesting. In fact, if Foreman doesnt win by early KO, you would have to start to favour Rocky to stop Foreman late. This is a very, very close fight, despite appearing a bit of a mismatch stylistically at first glance.

If this was after the fight with Frazier, I'm sure Rocky would train to not make it a repeat. Whether it would help much is up to speculation. Rocky must get in close to George. Good fight while it lasted. I see Foreman stopping Rocky.

Hey Tommy whats happening, don't smoke anymore but I just think that like Tyson after him and Liston before him - but probably even more so than them - Foreman can look completely immense and unbeatable when you watch him in his best fights bludgeoning people with massive punches but when I watch a lot of Foremans fights to get a more overall impression of him there are lots of periods in other fights where he can look a bit amateurish, pawing with his gloves all the time and being quite lumberous - the problem with Frazier in their first fight (and in a lot of Fraziers fights) is when Frazier got tagged and hurt by a shot his feet became froze to the floor - go back and watch them it always happens - he goes into this bobbing and ducking up and down motion but he stays rooted to the spot - anyone who does this is a sitting duck whether they're bobbing up and down at the waist or not - Rocky was never a sitting duck and was actually quite poised in his approach and when fighters were more poised and timed things with George he started to look a bit as though he was having trouble timing them back if you know what I mean - Marciano was rarely hurt in his career - and avoided a lot of unnecerssary punishment by moving away - stepping back out to come at things from better angles - Foreman is great and immense but say in the Norton match Ken did nothing to stop Foreman walking him down and threw only light jabs going away and reacted badly when hit real hard and Frazier was just coming at foreman on a straight line and really square-on - making say the wins against Frazier & Norton as arguments as to why Foreman would annialate Rocky doesn't really fall in line with my thinking because I think Frazier and Norton never saw the day thay they were anywhere near the fighter Marciano was -just my opinion though - Foreman's stamina would start to be in issue as the fight progress and Marciano would be looking for the upset finish all the time

Again, if the fight came after Frazier, Rocky could see exactly what not to do.

    i don't smoke.
and Marciano would come right at Foreman, which could be a TERRIBLE IDEA. Lyle proved that you can't really outslug Foreman and you have to be the very best to outbox him. Marciano wouldn't be able to do either of them since he would be decapitated by Foreman's uppercut, even if he does go down low.
Just a bad matchup for Marciano

I think the exact opposite was proven in that fight. Lyle never KO'd a ranked man. He was not a great fighter. Yet he dragged Foreman into a total war with his limited style. Imagine what a great fighter might do?

And Foreman was past his best.
    Foreman was a mental wreck
and Lyle wasn't so bad himself. the fact is, Lyle is the first one who really tried to slug out with Foreman and succeed, but he still got knocked out
    and it showed Foreman's heart

Foreman is just too big if Rocky comes in at 188 lbs.

Stamina is all Rocky has going for him....but that will used while on the floor.

    So i'm repeatedly told.

It seems that the fights from which we can acceptably draw a vision of Foreman head to head is as limited as that for Tyson.

Either way, Foreman certainly didn't prove himself unbeatable against a direct attack versus Lyle.

well it's certainly true that Foreman didn't face all that oppoisiton early on
but he proved he would come back, and not everybody would have done that.

Lyle was kicking Ali's ass. What a poor fighter.

people get carried away with the frazier/ marciano comparison- its a lazy example. an example i have not seen used is that of harry greb. ok nobody alive has seen him but greb was a tireless fighter who was never knocked out. marciano was a heavyweight version with the added bonus of knockout power on each hand. if greb can give away weight steaming in why not marciano?

I dont think foreman beat the frazier that ellis met yet there are those who are convinced a peak marciano fares as bad against foreman as the frazier who had already been through a mangle beating ali. frazier took more punches winning against ali than all the guys ali had actualy defeated until that point, even chuvalo and terrell took less. frazier was the best heavyweight at the time george got him but wasnt quite where he was before the ali fight. his resistance was not the same IMO.

    Foreman TKO3.

If Marciano gets past the first 5 rounds, then things get interesting...
