I am surprised Andy Lee hasnt been looked at for a replacement for Barker. Lee V Macklin may well be a harder fight for Macklin but for the winner it would open a lot of doors for World title fights. Would Peters be able to pull a few strings to get Lee on and the fight with Macklin. We all know Lees in training or is it too late for this fight to happen.

I know he has fights upcoming but if he was offered the Macklin fight and Lee wins it. It would put him in line for a World title shot. Yes it is a risk but a risk worth taking IF he could get out of the fights. It would also be good name for Macklin to beat if he is going back to the US. Lee has some exposure over in the US compared to some of the Euro bums over here that will step in for Barker.

Darren Barker and Tony Sims on the Matthew Macklin pull-out

Trainer and boxer reveal why the fight is off

    This content is protected
DESERVES HIS SHOT: That's Barker and Sims' magnanimous attitude toward Macklin DARREN BARKER’S trainer Tony Sims has revealed the fighter did not want to pull out of the Matthew Macklin fight, despite a serious injury which originally flared up weeks ago, while the boxer himself admits he is “falling to pieces”. British and European middleweight champion Barker broke down in sparring this week, and Sims made the tough decision to pull his man out of the huge September 18 clash with arch-rival macklin.
“Everyone knows he had a hip operation a few months back and the day before yesterday [Tuesday August 31] he broke down for a second time. A few weeks ago is when it first happened and I gave him five days off, but it went again this week midway through when he was sparring Danny Cadman.
“He asked for a few more days off but how long do you keep doing that for? The main thing is his health. He’s made an appointment to see his surgeon in Harley Street – it’s just a bit of a choker because I think he thought he’d be alright but maybe he came back too soon. It was 12 weeks to the day after the operation that he started training but he wanted the fight so badly.”
The search is on for a new opponent for Macklin in Birmingham and it looks likely that Barker will give up the European title so the new match can go ahead for the belt. It’s a risky act of generosity but Barker would expect to be highly rated by the EBU upon his return to fitness. Right now, however, Barker is too upset to look towards the future.
“It’s all come down on me,” a distraught Barker confessed. “I’ve got a cold now as well. I’m falling to pieces. It’s a nightmare.
“I don't want to go in not 100 per cent because if I went in and lost I wouldn’t want to be coming out with excuses. I really tried to come through but there's no way I could do it. I always thought I might be able to but I can’t.”
“He’s pretty depressed, in a bad way,” Sims added. “We’ve never lied about having the operation but I just think he thought he’d be bang on.
“Good luck to Macklin, he’s trained hard. We was looking for the fight for the last two years so maybe it will happen down the line. I think he’ll probably end up giving up the belt because until the surgeon sees him we don’t know how long he’ll be out. We don’t want to hold the belt up anyway. Macklin’s trained hard and deserves his shot.”

"Dazzlin’ Darren Barker or Frazzlin’ Barren Ducker?"

Poor show Slappy. You sure as hell wouldn't make a headline like that if it was the other way around. Barker speaks of his hip problems a little while back in an interview here: http://www.transparentsport.com/cfcuk/story.php?id=101796

There is a question mark at the end of that headline hombre! Makes all the difference.

Also the content of the article speaks for itself. I will let the readers digest the content and make their own minds up.

If Barker was injured why did he get Boxing News writer to say he wasnt? Not saying he isnt - just saying it stinks of ****!
