The insults are in no way an indication this fight will happen. It's just Mayweather trying to save his reputation. He did the sane against Margarito and Cotto when challenged on why he didn't fight them and those fights never happened. Historically, Mayweather has been pretty quiet and respectful to future opponents before a fight is signed. The hype and insults start when the fight is signed. If Mayweather is intending to fight Pacquiao, this promotion is unusual for him.

The important thing is, Floyd said he WILL fight Pacquiao, and whoop his ass (or however he put it), he just doesn't feel like he needs to right now.

I'm not calling him a fraud just yet, until he retires without fighting Pac. If he does that, absolutely he is a complete coward and fraud. But let's not count our chickens before they hatch here.

The video is unprecedented but he did say he'd beat Cotto and Margarito.

The main point is though, his reputation. Floyd has worked for years and years to build his reputation. Sometimes that's been a good guy, like in Dancing With Stars, sometimes a bad guy, like in the WWE, and then he's had his charity and everything.

Being good or bad is fine - It build his image and reputation exactly as he wanted. However, what's he's done now isn't a bad guy move, it's a cowardly move and that ruins the reputation he's built for years.

Floyd cares tremendously about his reputation. It's everything he has.

 

I have grown tired of the mouth, of the act, of the "Money" character....but I don't take issue with the guy if he chooses to fight once a year at this stage of his career. As long as that one fight is a big time fight like the one earlier this year, then it's hard to complain. And he's sure dropping hints that he's going to take this fight next year.

The steroid claim was the foreshadowing of this fight never happening.
Mayweather camp was saying Pac is too good and it must be because of the steroids.
Why would you fight someone that you thought was too good if you are Floyd and have not fought a younger fighter in years.
When Manny came back saying you can test me, Floyd said oh **** pack your bags it is time for a vacation. End of the day Floyd's skills are fading and he loves easy fights and easy money. If Manny beats Margarito and Floyd were to return to the sport he would need a tune up bout or 2 and guarantee he will do the same thing, fight 2 guys that will be no less than 4-1 dogs take the money and retire for good.
