The official fighter purses for those who competed at the UFC 118: "Edgar vs. Penn 2" pay-per-view on Saturday, Aug. 28, 2010, from the TD Garden in Boston, Mass., were released earlier today and passed along by the Massachusetts State Athletic Commission (via Sherdog.com).

Despite getting taken out early in the first round, heavyweight boxing champion James Toney got the last laugh after collecting a hefty salary of $500,000 for his submission loss to Randy Couture, who earned a flat rate of $250,000 for the win.

In fact, "Lights Out" was paid more than "The Natural" and BJ Penn, two of the promotion's top stars, combined.

Christ alive - why do we have the same discussion every time these are released.

These ARE NOT the final pay for fighters. All fighters recieve a lockerroom bonus from the UFC. Most main eventers recieve a cut of the PPV. The purse is just their baseline pay.

Beware of the zuffa zombies: "**** the fighters, zuffa deserves all the money, they committed the investment, they deserve all the rewards"

my question as always is how much did dana white get paid, if he got like $50,000 then it puts things in perspective.

if ufc generated 2-3 million dollars then the pay scale would be fair, if it generated 50 million, then zuffa took home like 20x more than all of its fighters received combined = unfair.

how many buys did this receive/ how much did the event generate in total including the gate? how much does zuffa take home?

Nothing wrong with your post - its all the idiots going THE FIGHTERS ARE GETTING SCREWED - when they have no idea what people are actually getting paid.

There was talk Toney would get 800K-1Million. Anyway, for the world to see a great boxer get creamed by their UFC legend in a minute and a bit it was well worth it. I've already come across people saying boxing is pointless as it's not real fighting as a direct result of this fight. For sure the redneck UFC fanbase is healthier than ever after this fight.

This is sooo tired now its just pathetic. This is there GUARANTEED earnings paid by the UFC. Whats so difficult to understand about that? Bonus's, sponsors, ad's etc are NOT guaranteed income and as such arent calculated in the basic wages of the fighters hence why those figures arent released as they can be absolutely anything and absolutely nothing as they are not guaranteed and in some cases not paid by the UFC.

Just accept the cold hard fact that the UFC pay scale sucks. JT walked into the UFC cage for 3 minutes and gets the same money that Chuck Liddell was making for less than a fraction of the work. Meanwhile Randy their poster boy made half? Carwin walked away with $20K for the biggest fight in UFC heavyweight history? The low carders get jack laid because they're not big enough names yet to make anything outside of their UFC salary hence why guys like Kalib Starnes left the UFC? Does that make any sense?

The UFC pay structure is geared towards winning. Go and check the pay increase of a winning fighter and you will see it increase fight on fight.

Recently, I estimated that an average contender like Nate Diaz earned about 150k in one year just because he fights hard.

Is it? Brock came into the UFC and got 400K for his first bout. Toney got even more. You clearly get paid more money according to how much you're worth to the UFC.

I wouldn't care if that is all that the fighters made. Even though we all know that it isn't. Getting paid that kind of money for fighting sure beats the **** out of doing roofs or something else for a living. If it doesn't... nobody is forcing anyone to fight for a living. The top boxers in the world make an absurd amount of money... that's why we always get ****ed out of seeing the fights that we want to see in boxing.

There is other guaranteed money from Zuffa.

They get paid for being employees of Zuffa, not just for the fight contracts. Randy gets well over a million each fight.

There is money outside of fight purses and bonuses paid by Zuffa, often it is more than the fight purse for the big names.

Every time Couture fights, it's pretty much accepted, that when it's all said and done he is taking home seven figures.
