That's what I thought, but it doesn't seem that way. Khan got pretty much the amount Maidana is demanding right now for the Paulie fight.

 

WBA Rules in Event of a purse bid:

9. ​

Disbursements of Bids Proceeds. The boxers’ Purse shall be distributed as

a. 75% to the Champion and 25% to the Challenger.
b. 50% to each contender in the case of vacant titles or elimination bouts.
c. 55% to the Champion in Recess and 45% to the Interim Champion, in the​

The standard split for the Champion in a mandatory fight is 75/25 unless one fighter is a much bigger attraction than the other.

Khan is the champion and the much bigger draw.

Khan shouuld just tell Maidana take the 25% or forfeit your mandatory spot to someone else. Maidana is in absolutely no position to make demands.

 

Thats still not clear as Maidana is interim champ but Khan is full champ not champ in recess.

So I'm guessing 60/40 or 65/35. So £1mil sound about right. No?

Khan is the star of the division in terms of recognition. Basically he does not need anybody to make good money. Maidana is quite a draw in his country but he does not have the name so far. He should ask for a lot anyway. The rest is strictly business, negotiations.

They're obviously trying to claw as much as they can get. I'm pretty sure they'll drop down to what they're worth. 70/30 in Khan's favour sounds fair.

But if Team Maidana continue with these far fetched demands, then good luck finding another opponent that will get them the same exposure.

 

Maidana should get 40 percent not 25 or 30 percent. Maidana is an interim wba champion.
