I just read a great article which I think everyone should have a read of. Long but informative.

    http://www.sportsbusinessjournal.com/article/65987

In the article they had a table showing some information including paid attendance (tickets sold) for some recent fights:

    Williams V Cintron:

    Paid Attendance: 2422
    Overall Attendance: 3653

    Berto V Quintana:

    PA: 972
    OA: 3508

    Diaz V Malignaggi I

    PA: 4424
    OA: 6306

    Klitschko V Arreola:

    PA: 7647
    OA: 14192

Fighter that gather the biggest crowds are the the ones that gave the people the opportunity to follow them. It doesen't happen over night. I've been reading this forum for a while now and there is a lot of posters who actually resent fighters like Oscar de la Hoya because of his earnings, but do not realise that some of his fans were with him since he was 16. It is obvious and it has been said a lot of times, boxing needs money at lower stages. Don't you get the filling that sometimes a boxing event is a made up spectacle without substance? We were there but nothing really happened? Think about how many wars went by without notice and how many mega fights did not live up to the expectations. Don't get me wrong, I'm not blaming the fighters, after all styles make fights, but for a real fan even a boring fight is extremley overwhelming because their idol is in that ring and with him a part of the fans personality. Klitschko brothers are great examples here. I won't go over the line and say, let's boycott ppv since this is just the tip of an iceberg; if we start supporting fighters in the early stages we will simultaneously get rid of ppv as it is a direct consequence of a diminished market.

My first post in the general forum :D

Only the ones under contract...Don't ask the pig while it eats !!! how much do you think others make, let's say Ishe Smith or Emanuel Avgustus? The money would be bigger if there would be more people. As I said, ppv is a sidekick of a much bigger thing.

Boxing needs a facelift and a big star who actually wants to fight often.

Fernanado Guerrero does like 5k in Maryland... Funny thing is this... Peter Manfredo can fill a big arena lol..... Manfredo does Adamek numbers before Adamek did Adamek numbers... Im very surprised that Arum never took advantage of that.... Pavlik/Manfredo >>>>>>>>> Pavlik/Lockett....

hardly anybody cares about Live attendance in boxing anymore its about viewership nowadays. I mean outside of the megadraws like Mayweather and Pacquiao who are good for at least 15K, depending on ticket prices, who's next up? Peter Manfredo?

People want to see Klitschkos fight. Vitali Klitschko Vs. Kirk Johnson sold out during a huge snowstorm at Madision Square Garden, New York, New York, USA!!!!!!! Great viewership also. It's nothing for Klitschkos to get 60,000 to 65,000 fans at ringside!!!!!!! Nobody wants to see Berto lose a fight yet get a decision, such as his loss to Collazo!
