You can't score a round 9-9 in the "ten-point must" system. At least one guy has to get 10 points. So you have to score that round 10-10, not 9-9.

The only way you can have a 9-9 round is is the ref instructs the judges to take a point away from the guy they had winning the round. Without the ref subtracting a point, then someone needs to get 10 points. Harold Lederman explains this well after the first round of Williams vs Martinez, where both fighters scored knockdowns and Kellerman said he thought it was a 9-9 round.

If a fighter scores a knockdown, he should win 10-8 even if he was dominated for the entire rest of the round. The ref's count gives you about 12 seconds to regain your senses and catch your breath, whereas the guy who floored you gains nothing. The 2-point round is the price you pay for that 12-second rest, and for your opponent having to wait for you to get up off your ass.

The result is the same even if you score it 0-0, but the reason they have the 10-point must sytem is out of respect for the guys getting their heads bashed in. Losing 120-108 sounds a little better than losing 12-0, which is what a shut-out looked like in the old days.

But where is that written in the rules? Show me.

Just because it is 'common practice' that doesn't mean it is mandatory practice.

But I read that as up to 10 points. I'm not fighting it but what I am saying is lets find the official written rules on it.

Anyway if the guy got a KD but lost the round I'd make it a 10-10 round then because the guy knocked down has 'recouped' the lost point(s)

10-9 to the guy who scored the kd. Obviously the guy who scores the kd normally gets a 10-8 round, but by winning the rest of the round, the 'knock-downee' can win one point back. If you score it an even round, that means the kd'd fighter wins 2 points back, which wouls be bs. You don't gain 2 points over your opponent by winning a round without a kd, do you?

No, that would mean he has 'recouped' 2 lost points, which is bull****.

**** that, You get knocked down YOU lose the RD 10-8.
(Regardless if you "won" the rd on points, IMO)

Even Rd's **** up the scoring system.
(Ask JMM, He lost fight's simply based on KD's... Other wise he clearly defeated Pac twice)

9-9 should of been rd 7 on the JMM-MAB bout.

Marquez dominated that round before getting knocked down legitimatly by a Barrera, and then Barrera hits him while he's on the ground, thus the point reduction.

    10. Point. MUST. System.

For me, in the situation described originally I tend to score it 10-9 for the guy who scored the knockdown. I consider a knockdown the trump card over anything that happened in determining who won the round, but if the guy otherwise lost the round, he didn't dominate enough for me to justify a 10-8 round.

JMM was dominating that round big time tho...if Barrera hadnt hit him on the ground it should of been a 10-9 round based on JMM's dominance before the KD. I know its a 10 point must system but there can be situations when points are deducted were it can end up a 9-9 round...For example, round 12 of the Barrera-Hamed bout.
