first round of Cotto-Clottey I had clottey winning the round, then Cotto floored him with a jab in the final 10 seconds. I scored it 10-9 Cotto. If he had scored a heavy kd I probably would have given him 10-8 as it was a fairly close round

Rounds with point deductions are the common reason people end up getting confused about the 10 point must system. Even in a round with a point deduction, you still must give one guy 10 points. It is AFTER you score your round that you deduct the point.

For rounds like Round 12 of Barrera-Hamed, it is actually scored like this (this is what you'll see on the scorecard):

    Barrera: 10 (-1)
    Hamed: 9

Now I know scoring the round like this gives the same end result as just saying it was scored 9-9, but thinking about it this way helps keep clear that it truly is, under all circumstances, a 10-point must system.

10-9 is the correct score, as others have correctly pointed out.

Always hilarious when there are threads like this on ESB and you see how many people (who have doubtless posted on the rights and wrongs of scorecards in various fights) have no ****ing idea of the correct way to score.

    wrong again:

    9-9 is correct

when a fighter is knocked down, that fighter loses a point. simple.

10 point must.At least one fighter must be awarded 10 points in each round. If there is a point deduction for the fighter who won the round, then a round can be scored 9-9. Not otherwise

10-9 for the fighter that scored the KD

there were 2 rounds in the Adamek/Cunningham fight where Cunningham was just absolutely dominating the pole but got over excited and left himself open to get KD towards the end of the round.

I was the ring announcer in a bout between Jorge Diaz and Giovanni Figueroa. Diaz went down by a flash knockdown in the 1st round when his glove touched the canvas. Besides the knockdown, Diaz won the round easily. After the round the referee picked up the scorecards and to my surprise, I saw that one judge scored the round for Diaz.

i think it is 9-9 is it not. 10-9 winning the round minus point for being knocked down?

i dunno it very rarely happens. but a kd vs cunningham by adamek if i remember correctly fits that criteria. cunningham batters adamek from pillar to post, but suffers a flash kd. cant remember which one, think it was the 2nd one.

i just watched it . and i still score it 10-8 pac. reason being besides the knockdown, the round was pretty even so the knockdown gets pac the point and the round.in my opinion.

    No it isn't.

That round was not scored 9-9 by any of the judges. Two of them scored it 10-9 to Adamek and one 10-8 to Adamek.

but there IS a point deduction - as i said

"when a fighter is knocked down, that fighter loses a point." - that is a deduction

10/9 is a standard won round
10/8 - is a standard won round and then a futher one point deduction from the loser due to them being KD
9/9 is a standard won round but then the winner of the round gets a one point deduction for being KD'ed during the round

when a fighter is knocked down, that fighter loses a point

    i'm sticking with 9/9

No there isn't. A points deduction can only be ordered by the referee and is deducted from the judges score at the end of the round (which will initially show at least one of the boxers scoring '10' under the ten point must system). Hence, if the referee deducts a point from the fighter who the judge has winning the round 10-9 you could end up with 9-9 for that round.

A knockdown is considered by the judge as part of his scoring of that round. Under the ten point must system, at least one fighter must still score 10.

We're not discussing a matter of opinion here, you are factually wrong.

You are wrong. Not as in a matter of opinion, but factually you are wrong. KD's are not automatic point deductions. You can penalize someone in your mind if they get knocked down... but in the end, one of the fighters MUST be awarded 10 points under the 10-point MUST system.

If you're still unclear on the point deduction part, go back and read my post about how the scorecard reads for a point deduction. Remember, though: KD's are NOT automatic point deductions, not by any boxing commission's rules anywhere in the world.
