Nothing to do with weight or training camps. This was a continuation of what he showed for most of the fight with Nicky Cook. He has not heard of a jab and has no boxing skill. It was nonetheless a surprise he was shown up by what I still consider a European class fighter.
Someone has changed his tune http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=251662 Not like him to be happy
I knew Rocky was no monster but i thought the lack of competition would catch up with Ricky tonight and he wouldn't be able to keep Martinez off all night. Delighted to eat humble pie, congratulations to Ricky and Billy and fair play to Frank Warren for winning purse bids and getting the fight over here
I thought the early knockdown helped Ricky. Martinez just went reckless chasing the KO. Burns picked his spots beautifully and let his hands go keeping Martinez off-balance for the vast majority of the fight. He had some scary moments. Martinez hit him with huge shots in that 10th round but he survived. The icing on the cake was the 11th and 12th were Burns boxed like a man possesed and closed the show. FOTY
Not really. Martinez was significantly worse than each of his last few fights. I see it as Martinez on a bad night and Burns on a good night. I'm not trying to take anything away from Burns, who was great. I just don't think that was anything close to Martinez best.
Serve me up a slice. I dont really post in here so i never made my feelings known about this fight, i thought Burns would be out of there before the 6th though.
I think he took Burns lightly and expected an early night. To be honest, Ricky has never shown he was capable of performing like that before.
As per usual with my boxing bets I was nowhere near correct. I had Martinez to KO burns! I may change my name to Teddy Atlas.
I think that's right. He didn't expect the fight to go past the half way mark. Burns was well prepared for a 12 round war.
That's exactly the way I saw it. That knockdown in the first was the worst thing that could happen to Martinez and the best that could happen to Burns. Martinez was loading up for the next 5 rounds and it cost him the fight because inbetween then Burns grew in confidence and worked him out. Can't wait to see him out next time :bbb
