Maybe but thats clearly done to the way Ricky boxed and never allowed martinez to get it all his own way, come on mate give Burns credit FFS. I told yous rockys last opponentwas tailor made for him a slow puncher with very little movement it was only a matter of time before he caught up with him.
I wish people would stop giving you and Ricky credit. It was obviously Neil Lennon's good luck message which inspired the both of you to previously hidden super-human feats, and which completely threw Martinez off his game. More praise for Lennon required.
superb fight , Ricky showed guts , brains and skill . I was on the edge of my seat. I thought it was a big ask but Ricky just grew and grew as the fight went on , fantastic night !
I was hoping there would be a thread like this - my name needs to be attached to it. What a fight, what a performance - well done Burns and Billy.
Good shout that man. (Either that or you seen my prediction of 115-113 and realised listening to me is the way forward )
I'm not trying to take anything away from Ricky. He performed superbly, showed heart, skill, and intelligence (most of the time). He deserved the victory by a wider margin than the judges gave him. Martinez won 3 rounds at best IMO. And although you are correct saying Burns performance was the reason Martinez looked terrible, I think this is half the case. Martinez was flat-footed from the opening bell. He well underestimated Ricky and deserved to lose his belt. I expect that if there is a rematch, it would be a lot closer (not that there should be a rematch, Ricky beat him so convincingly).
I no only need a piece of the pie, in need the whole god damn thing! Well done Ricky. By the 7th I was stunned by how often he seemed to be hurting Martinez!
I was always supporting Burns but I'm still due some humble pie. I though Martinez would wear him down by 8th or 9th. Thankfully when I txt my wee brother from the fight to put my money where my mouth is he had deleted al his internet banking accounts and I never lost any cash. Was delighted for Ricky, although it looked far closer in the arena and I thought Ricky needed the last 2 rounds to make sure he took the title away. I re watched it on the telly when I came in and it was pretty comfortable.
Burns was simply magnificent. The fact is he's a much better fighter than Martinez. There's only one facet of the game than Martinez was superior as we know and that was power. In every other department Burns is simply better, and he has the heart of a lion to go with it.As an Englishman I was proud of that Scot last night!
