To be fair, I've just watched the sports news on BBC Breakfast and it was the second story after the cricket betting scandal. They'd even splashed out on a bit of footage. They don't do that much but their usually sh1te website was first with the Barker story this week...incredibly unusual.
Really? Well that's good that the did that. Ironically there was naff all on Sky news earlier this morning.
Both BBC and Sky Sports pages where disappointing, the funny thing is that now he is the champ his first defence will probably get more coverage then he did from winning the title
True, If I went round my office (30 people) then rang every business contact on my phone (133 people) I doubt any of them would have heard of Ricky Burns. Not his fault. Its just most people do not follow Boxing. Its almost like table tennis or Badminton.
Top news in scotland obv http://sport.stv.tv/ But a British world champion should be up there for the BBC - a national news body!
I agree. They talk about are shitty football, Murray never winning a grand slam etc etc How about a Brit becoming a world champ yesterday.
A Brit winning one of a miasma of belts on Sky against an unknown opponent is never going to get mainstream sports, like football and tennis, off the news. Instead of berating the BBC for this, how about we demand our sport is run better so it's actually a viable alternative to sports with proper structure?
englands a ball sport country, in mexico its bull fighting, in the us for a big majority if you dont fight your keeping warm round a oil drum fire, boxing is bigger there , we like a tennis racket old boy, golf, footy, anything were theres no mention of hurt, the favarite british word is cruel, theres still good boxing fans, but those who faint at a drop of blood are the majority, they would sooner put you down painlessly, than let you fight for a chance to live.:---(
