Major sites report that the deal is in place and it's a matter of time before Guillermo Rigondeaux (6-0, 5KOs) vs. Ricardo Cordoba (37-2-2, 22KOs) sign a deal for a November 13 fight on the Pacquiao-Margarito PPV undercard. The two would fight for the interim WBA Super-Bantamweight title (the champ is the #1 SBW, Poonsawat) in a 12 rounder.

But is it too early for Rigondeaux?

30 years old in a few weeks, time is definitely against the talented Cuban, and legal battles plus personal issues prevented him to quickly rush through the different levels of competition, and now he's jumping from D+ to B++ vs. a talented and aggressive former world champion.

Cordoba at 25 (ranked #4 by The Ring), is a young ring veteran with 40+ fights and only losses to Poonsawat and Bernard Dunne (pretty nasty that one) while he beat Celestino Caballero and picked up the very belt he'd fight Rigo for. His war vs. Dunne was one of the finest last year and is 3-0 since the loss.

Rigondeaux clearly is one of the best fighters ever that came out from the amateurs, and his handlers strongly believe he can beat any professional, but there are several huge question marks such and chin, stamina, mental strength, adaptability vs. varied styles etc. etc. If he can beat Cordoba on his 7th fight, that would be a major statement, but then he'd have to face the 'Thai Pacquiao', and Poonsawat's all out style is all wrong for an economical counterpuncher such as Rigondeaux. So it's quite a huge plan for the classy Cuban and you gotta respect the team for thinking big, but let's just wait and see whether Rigo can handle this kind of jump in class.

Who do you expect to win?

This is a mega undercard compared to Top Ranks usual offerings. The rumoured Jones-Soto Karass fight is a good matching of prospects and I love this fight. This is Rigos seventh fight and he is already facing a better opponent than Gamboa ever has IMO. Great fight

sick. Just another reason to buy that card. Give me Montiel vs Donaire along with it and I'll be 100% satisfied.

That would make it the best card of the year.

    Doubt it will happen though.

You know what? I'd rather watch that as a main event over Pac/Marg. Awesome match-up!

****ing 6-0? Rigo is on a mission man he just gained my respect. Id rather watch Rigo fight this guy than Caballero but the poor guy wont have a fight now. Caba has some terrible luck.

Cordoba was Cabas mandatory last year and Caba wouldnt fight him. Nothing to do with bad luck. Caballero calls out other fighters but then wont try to avenge his losses

LoL yeah you know that makes alot of sense. I think hes waiting to cash in and is sitting on the sidelines because of this. If I were him I would rather stay busy than stay unemployed.

 are you kidding me. If they replaced Pac vs Margo with Donaire vs Montiel I wouldn't pay 50$ to see it. I'd still wanna watch it for sure but its not a PPV fight. WCB for sure

I thought Rigo was going a little too slow, so this is great news. WAR CORDOBA!!!

I'm excited, great news! I hope and expect Rigo to win, Cordoba looks like someone a good counterpuncher and mover could do well against. The step up is huge, though, and I hope we'll get a few answers along the way to an impressive victory.
The fight against Poonsawat could be put on hold for a while though. My two favourite fighters at the moment, I'd rather see it later than sooner. There's always 118.

I'd always take two exciting P4P-ers over a top guy vs. a handpicked opponent (even though that pick could go really wrong), Pac-Clottey was pretty awful.

well Pac is not just a top p4p guy he also happens to be the best boxer of his generation and one of the best fighters of all time. I think if I was in the era of a guy like Henry Amstrong I would do everything I can to see his fights even if its considered against a former champion who has fallen off his peak.

And Pac vs Clottey was still two top5 WWs fighting each other which is my book is a good fight on paper, though in the ring it didn't turn out to be all that. Pac vs Margo is the opposite, a fight that looks bad on paper but will probably turn out to be a war in the ring.
