Ive always been a bigger Barrera fan but i do admire Morales too. Im a big Barrera fan since ive seen him live more than any other fighter. Saw thie first war with Morales live and his awesome fight with Mckinney. Also saw so many of his fights when he was coming up at the Forum. At the first Morales fight id say 70% of the fans were for Morales but i lost my voice for a week cheering for Barrera. Who do you guys like?

Interesting. Why the change in opinion, McGrain?

Everybody knows that Barrera is my favorite fighter of all time, but I still have great admiration for Erik Morales and what he achieved in his career. Barrera was the more measured of the two, and I preferred his lightning quick combination's to head and body rather than Morales sweeping right hands and tendency to flurry. I think he ironed that out a lot after he started moving up, and wasn't as easy to hit, but Barrera will always be my favorite.

I consider them to be interchangeable in a P4P sense.

Ive always loved Barreras style and if i went pro id love to emulate his style. Just a perfect combo of Boxing and brawling skills(when he wanted to). IMO he was much more pleasing to watch than Morales. Morales is an ATG but his punches didnt flow like Barrera and he was slightly mechanichal at times. Barrera was so smooth but also brutal. To this day i still wonder why Manny had his number:huh If they had never fought i could have sworn that Barrera would have had the style to whup Manny.:-(

    I agree.

Barrera was super smooth with his combination's. Imagine if ESB's General Forum had existed back in 1997, Marco would have headlined Spadafora's infamous Glass Jaw top 10. Some people offer Marco's inconsistency as a slight against him and his career, whereas I'm just humbled by his ability to bounce back from devastating defeats. The man had character.

They're both among my favourite fighters as I grew up. And while I'd rate them side by side on any P4P list, I'd have to chose Barrera as my favourite of the two as he was the reason I made the step from being a young boxing fan, to someone who wanted to enter a boxing gym.

Yes he did :good But if anyone labeld Barrera with a glass jaw. They would be complet idiots IMO the man had an ATG chin. Junior Jones pulled the trick but he could bang and Barrera fought a dumb fight and showed no respect for Juniors power(he paid the price). Other than that fight he always showed an amazing beard. I dont really think Marco was inconsistant, but i do think he underestimated Manny(i did too) . I remember thinking this former flyweight is biting off more than he can chew just cause he kod Ledwaba and Julio dont mean he can **** with the Baby faced assasin:lol: Boy was i wrong i remember telling everyone Marco will ko manny in 4.:patsch

Indeed, Barrera took a lot of leather against Manny in that brutal first fight, and he wasn't legitimately knocked out. His corner stopped it, rightfully. Took a lot of sharp right hands from Marquez too, and even Khan, all of this happening past his prime and above his best weight.

Marco had a stellar chin and remained calm if he was ever hit with a big shot. Some fighters back pedal, or lose their focus altogether, but Marco would fire back immediately with his own combination's. A wonderful fighter, you were blessed to have seen him at the forum as often as you did.

I like, respect and admire them both, but I prefer Barrera. Not much in it though. There's not much between them in any way really. Close h2h, close p4p, close ability, etc.
