People love Ali, people enjoyed Hammed and adore Hatton; Larry Holmes' prestige grows by the day. These men will be remembered for a long time to come.
Only a small minority actually like Mayweather, most respect his skill and the rest just watch to see if he get knocked out. Also, most people really don't like Haye. These two will be forgotten at the first convenient moment.
The Klitschko's also showed exactly how to beat one of these 'loud mouths', ignore them and continue on with your own career and they will be crushed into obscurity by the weight of their own egos. Feed them? and you will create a monster.

What was initially attractive about boxing to me was the good sportsmanship really tough guys (usually) showed one another. Guys like Ali and Duran deviated from that , and I did find it exciting.
But the problem I have with it now is that the guys with the biggest mouths seem to be the ones cherrypicking opponents. At least Duran and Ali backed their words up. Guys like Haye and Mayweather just run their yaps and avoid the potentially most interesting fights.

Ali more or less started the trend. Historically Ali was a huge fan of old school pro wrestling. He willingly took on the roll of the "heel," and sought to emulate guys like Georgeous George, and other notorious heel wrestlers. When it's done well, it very entertaining. When it is done poorly, it seems like childish foolishness.

Compare these two guys to Mayweather, and you will see exactly what I mean.

    Well said.

Like I said in other threads, Floyd is trying to be Ali and failing miserably at it.

  8. There's talking trash to hype/promote a fight... and then there's the Mayweathers -- a band of uneducated, trash-talking, money-hungry, drug-dealin', women-pulverizing thugs.

Make no mistake, Floyd's a hateful little racist turd.

    :-(

floyd has embraced being the bad guy in all of his fights and it's made him a lot of money. the video was stupid but i don't think he's a racist as much as he's an immature brat.

A fighter can say what he wants, but then he has to fight the opponent. PBF has to take on PAC now...............otherwise ..............

Ive always liked it in its different formats, at the end of the day its only words and it should end up being sorted in the ring like outside a pub. And at the end of the fight the true respect is shown between the 2.

Then there is the career long grudges, they are great too, but only aslong as it again ends up getting sorted in the ring.

But what i dont like is when people give it all the mouth but then never fight the guy, Floyd was badmouthing Pacman in that video, it should of ended with the words "So lets get it on" Not "aint got the urge im goin on a year long holiday"

Thats just a cheap shot from a wanker.
