Spot on, thats exactly the plan. Whether Khan can stick to it whilst under pressure is another thing entirely however
Khan is long and fast and has a great jab and with those assets alone he should be able to put on a clinic against a flat footed Maidana. Should be and on the surface it looks like it will be a wide UD. However there are seeds in the Ortiz fight that make me think Maidana has a shot. He counters well, particularly with the left hand while moving backwards, and thats the shot Khan, IMO, is particularly vulnerable to. Paulie tagged him more than enough but he just had no mustard on the shots. We seem to agree that if Maidana finds the mark Khan is getting sparked, and I have to believe that has a good chance of happening at some point. Maidana does what Cotto used to do and throws as you throw, not minding the shot he's receiving; loving the shot he's dealing. That said he looked ****ing abysmal against Corley, and in all of his fights has shown that once he has his man hurt he can't apply intelligent pressure, instead simply winding up with huge, wide right hands. And against someone who can box, like Khan, he will punch himself out while hitting air. I can't stand Khan and I love Maidana but you have to give the edge to Khan here.
I expect Khan winning by running circles towards a UD, but I hope Maidana catches him or lures him into trading. Don't think this fight will actually happen.
Khan by wide Ud or TKO. But i would not be surprised if Khan had to pick himself off of the canvas at some point in the fight.
I like how Khan has turned into a defensive wizard on ESB. There is absolutely no evidence to suggest he can keep Maidana off for 12 rounds, or take even a decent punch.
I hate Amir Khan! However, he is the better boxer with much more speed. Freddie will make him box for most of the fight and keep a safe distance. If Khan doesn't get caught, he'll probably win a wide point decision. If he gets caught or decides to brawl... well we all know the outcome then.
This. I just have a feeling Maidana will somehow get the two shots in that he needs to break Khans confidence.. and chin.. Maidana by KO.
That's pretty much the breakdown of it. The result hinges on Khan not derailing from the plan once things get tough, he has a bad tendency (less so these days) to suddenly abandon what he's been taught and begin crowd pleasing, or throwing caution to the wind because he thinks the crowd are thinking he's just been hurt etc and feels like he needs to prove something. If he doesn't do that, and Maidana doesn't get lucky. Then as the poster above, wide UD.
