Have you seen his fight with Earl? It was absolute counter punching masterclass stuff. I think in his fights against Arthur and Johannson the pressure got to him.
its looked like hes gone backwards i watched him in the best of puerto rico boxing card a few months back he showed good boxing skills was patient balanced got a good ko i dont know if he believed his own hype in bein a one punch knock out artist too much and it unsettled him when he cudnt stop him i dont know really
I believe Burns made him look ordinary myself, Burns was never in one place to be hit and was always mixing up his gameplan to unsettle Martinez, to put it bluntly Martinez was beaten by the better guy and was given a boxing masterclass.:smoke
not that fight was dead early on wasnt it, he werent on my radar then. ive seen most of his fights since he lost to arthur and in none of the ones i saw has he looked that good. i mean he looked good vs gomez obviously but i think that was just a personal beating cos of the prefight smack talk. you know that vs martinez was one of the best performances by a scottish fighter in recent times. but he hasnt consistently performed like that. if he can get that consistency then we have one helluva fighter.
ye but i get the feeling hes the type that will drop it soon in a defense against a meaningless fighter maybe they should just chase the big names cas he seems like one that puts more effort in if hes not expected to win
he could well be, i still believe he should try and fight sykes/cook and see if he is really a class above that level.
id rather him go for a big fight over seas im sure he cud unify the titles against fana which wud give him more global notice than sykes or cook
it could but if he rushes into a unification fight he could lose his belt. to me even though his performance was great, he hasnt proven to be a class above his domestic competition.
yes but iv seen too many brit fighters wait too long while ur in the form of ur life go for the big fights hes 27 he can come back if he loses as long as he makes a good fight of it
thats the thing, he isnt in the form of his life. out of his last 3 fights, only one did he look anything other than journeyman level. he struggled badly against o'hara and that geezer who had lost 5 times more than he won. he hasnt shown a level of consistency yet. then again it might just be me, i also wanted khan to fight thaxton and murray.
maybe hes like erik morales he only performs to the level of his opponent.....now i know morales did that to keep the fight competitive for the fans but cud still be motivation and dedication lackin in thos fights with journeymen
they arent journeymen tho, sykes is the british belt holder, and nicky cook is a former champ. both these fights would do well over in the uk, he would get a lot more than say fighting fana. once his recognition has increased then take on the harder fights, saying that cook vs burns is a toss up itself. its always a fine line in my eyes, ya see a boxer should fight the best domestic opposition out there, but he should spend too long doing it, i say 2 more big uk fights then go to conquer the world with a recognised name and some decent victorie under ya belt.
i think once you make the jump to a world title you shud be fighting the top ranked there i am fed up of people becoming world champions but not bein ready to take on the best you should only take title shots when ye ready....and i really like burns especially after the martinez win its one of thos egreat boxing stories but im stickin by my morals lol
